A/N: Yami no BakuraxSeto Kaiba drabble. It's a 3am fic; so don't expect anything too coherent. I'll probably edit this later )
Enjoy!
It is said that people occasionally dream of experiences in their past lives. Seto Kaiba is no exception, though he does have an unfortunate habit of having said dreams during waking hours, rather than when he is unconscious. His dreams are focused on his priesthood, of encounters with a certain white-haired thief - that millennia later would still be sleeping next to him.
Bakura's dreams are less pleasant. He is often jolted awake in awkward positions at equally awkward times of the morning, having thrashed himself awake mid-nightmare. These dreams do not include things of value (as one might expect) but a doomed village, a family brutally murdered and seven items of dark power.
When these nightmares occur, Bakura only needs to tug lightly on Seto's arm and he will spring to life, comforting the thief with soothing nonsense about net profits and company procedure until the other is lulled back to sleep. Office talk can be surprisingly relaxing, and Seto can be considerate – a quirk that most people are unaware of. He is also a remarkably light sleeper.
Privately, Bakura half-believes that Seto doesn't sleep at all – he simply pretends. Perhaps it is to make Bakura feel at ease as he slumbers, perhaps because he drinks too much coffee during the daylight hours. Bakura doesn't know. Seto's motives are often veiled. While this would frustrate most people (notably Joey Wheeler, whom Bakura is not very fond of anyway), it is an excitement to Bakura. Other mortals he has encountered in the modern day were less complex – nothing more than puppets to be manipulated. Seto is different. He is truly an enigma, Bakura muses, nestling closer to his lover instinctively.
"Go to sleep." Seto murmurs, turning to face him. Bakura wonders how Seto knows he is still awake, though it is not entirely surprising. He trails his fingers through immaculately trimmed hair admiring the contrast between his unruly white locks and the chestnut that crowns Seto's pale, stoic face. In so many ways, Bakura decides, they are the same.
Yet in others they are still so… unfathomable… to one another.
