A Rose

A Contestshipping One-Shot by Nakamura Namiko

Note: Some of you are probably thinking, "WHAT THE HELL? I THOUGHT SHE HATED MAY!" and that's what I expected. However, Contestshipping is changing my mind…damn, I'm weird. Anywho, this is just a one-shot I wrote as my Yu-Gi-Oh fic, "A Cup of Ice to Go," is going to come to a close after a few more chapters and I have writer's block. (It's supposed to happen right after the Hoenn Grand Festival.) I hope you enjoy this fan fic!

Drew woke up early that morning. He changed out of his Venusaur pajamas into a T-shirt and jeans. "I can't believe I'm really home," he said to himself, and then stopped a minute.

Why'd I give her a rose? he thought. She has to know I like her by now because of that stupid flower. Damn, what the hell was I thinking?

He wondered where May was at that very moment in the swiftly passing time. He assumed she was back at the Petalburg Gym with her parents. She was probably glad to be rid of him. She'd probably thrown the rose away.

He absentmindedly punched his bedroom wall. Why am I torturing myself? he questioned, looking for an answer from his inner self. I'm not going to be able to enjoy being home.

Drew figured that perhaps playing with a Pokemon would make him forget about it, but he quickly changed his mind. He didn't feel like playing with Roselia, Flygon, or Masquerain.

He wished May were with him. He wished he could tell her how he felt about her, but he continuously told himself that he couldn't and that she probably liked that bastard Ash anyway.

Drew feigned a smile. I'm all worked up over a rose. He opened his bedroom door and went down the stairs. His parents were at the kitchen table drinking coffee.

"Good morning, Drew," said his father.

"Is there any coffee left for me?" Drew asked.

"No, hon, sorry. But I can make some more if you want," his mother said.

"No, that's fine," Drew said coolly, flipping his hair to the side and turning towards the stairs.

"Don't you want any breakfast?"

"I'm not hungry," snapped Drew, and he thump, thump, thumped up the stairs, angry that May was still on his mind. When he reached his room, he slammed the door shut and flung himself on his bed.

"I can't take this anymore!" he whined, banging his head against the wall. "I'm just gonna call the Petalburg Gym." He found the phone book and searched for the number. I'm glad I have a video phone in my room, he thought. Drew's clumsily dialed the number.

Ring…ring…

Drew tapped his foot against his bed.

Ring…ring…

How long was this going to take?

Ring…ring…

"PICK UP, DAMMIT!"

"What was that?"

Drew looked at the screen and saw a man with a chiseled face staring at him. "Mr. May's Dad! Um, is May there?"

Norman looked at Drew and laughed. "As a matter of fact, she's out…would you like to leave a message?"

"Um, no, I'm okay, thanks."

"All right…" Norman looked confused.

Drew sighed dazedly. Then, all of a sudden, he noticed a coffee table in the background. On the coffee table was a vase…and do you know what was in that vase?

Yes.

It was a rose.
