No matter how many ways Kyon looked at it, it seemed that "arrogant" was, in fact, not a word that could be used to describe Suzumiya Haruhi. There were plenty of words that did describe her. Cocky. Overbearing. A depraved megalomaniac and potential sex offender. But she was not arrogant.

It all came down to the definition. As far as Kyon was aware, "arrogant" meant "disposed to exaggerate one's own worth or importance." But Haruhi never exaggerated anything about herself. She pushed around the members of the SOS Brigade based on a single fact that was, no matter how much Kyon detested it, undeniably true—she was the brigade chief.

For example, why did she choose Asahina as the brigade's so-called mascot? Were she truly an arrogant person, wouldn't she try to attract members with her own beauty? She wasn't exactly unattractive…at least to anyone willing to overlook her personality and focus on the physical aspect. But instead, she had kidnapped Asahina, who was far prettier than she, and Haruhi acknowledged that.

Kyon sighed in defeat. He wanted to call her arrogant, but he wasn't the sort of person to make a claim without some support to back it up. It seemed that this adjective simply wasn't applicable. Oh well. There were plenty of other nasty names he could call her.

Mikuru had never been a very big advocate of telling lies. Dishonesty was a bad thing, and she detested it. Kyon, in particular, was the last person she would ever want to lie to—omitting Haruhi, of course, where the issue was fear rather than morality. Kyon was a sweet boy, after all, and was one of the few people she felt like she could truly trust.

She had, however, lied to Kyon once.

As far as the laws of time-travel were concerned, her true age wasn't really classified information.

Itsuki knew very well that life wasn't fair. He started to realize it when his powers had first awakened. Why him? Why should he be responsible for defending the world from the wrath of God in the form of the emotional instability of a teenage girl? Who decided that he had to be an esper? But in time, he learned to accept it. After all, no one likes a bitter person, and at least he could feel a bit special or important through his duties.

Still, injustice returned to harass him again. When he became a member of the SOS Brigade, he met some wonderful and interesting people…particularly Kyon. He wasn't really sure what it was about Kyon that drew him in so much. Maybe it was his witty sarcasm, or perhaps the fact that he didn't treat him like a freak after discovering his abilities. Or maybe it was because Kyon was the first person he truly felt that he could call his friend.

For the first time in longer than Itsuki could remember, he had someone to love. It was nice…for the most part, at least. But loving him from a distance was the only thing he could do; God was in love with him too, after all.

It was more than a little unfair that he couldn't love Kyon the way he wanted to without bringing the world to an end.

On Yuki's planet, there was such a thing as "friendship." She had witnessed it for the first time right before she and Asakura had been dispatched to Earth; one of the scientists had injured herself, and another took it upon himself to abandon his duties and help her. Yuki was fascinated by this unusual and illogical display. After all, the scientist's duties were what ensured that he could make a living; why put them aside in favor of someone else, an action from which he would not benefit at all?

It seemed that friendship existed on Earth as well. She observed it during school, enticed and confused. What was it that made people want to put their friends before themselves?

She continues to wonder this, even as she dives in front of Asakura's attack in Kyon's defense.
