What Can I Say?
A/N: Hello again! Another songfic that I writted. My take on what should have happened between Derek and Meredith at the end of 2.05/ beginning of 2.06. So here goes. Yay.
Derek watched Meredith down another shot while she stared ruefully at the few empty glasses in front of her. Only four, but it had been half an hour already, and she didn't know he had been watching her for the past few minutes.
"Pour me another, Joe. It doesn't look like he'll be showing up anytime soon," she instructed.
"On the contrary," Derek interrupted, startling Meredith, "I'll take it from here."
Look to the clock on
the wall,
Hands hardly moving at all.
Can't stand the state
that I'm in
Sometimes it feels like the walls closing in
"Derek… you came." Meredith watched him move towards the barstool next to her.
"I came." He sat on the stool, looked deeply into her eyes, and smiled.
"Don't sit," she instructed. He stood up as soon as he sat down. "Let's talk."
O lord what can
I say
I'm so sad since you went away
time time ticking on
me
Alone is the last place I wanted to be
Lord what can I say
The two walked outside into an unusually brisk Seattle night.
"So," Meredith started, watching him pace slightly in front of her.
"So," Derek agreed,
She sat down on a bench in front of his pacing path. He stopped in front of her and turned to face her.
"Did you… did you sign them?"
Try to bury my
troubles away
drowns my sorrows the same way
seem that no
matter how hard I try
It feel like something's just missing
inside
Derek inhaled quietly.
"Can I say what I want to say first?"
She nodded.
"Okay, good."
A brief silence fell between them before he took Meredith's hand.
"Meredith, I love you. In a really, really big, pretend to want to watch a chick flick, not complain about burnt macaroni and cheese and cheap wine, hold you until I can't feel my arms anymore, incredible way that makes it pathetic to call myself a man, love you."
She smiled at the use of her own speech, but his words hit her deeply. That was the first time her ever told me he loved me.
O lord what can
I say
I'm so sad since you went away
time time ticking on
me
Alone is the last place I wanted to be
Lord what can I
say
Oh lord what can I say
"I can't ever get you out of my head or my heart. You are everything, and ever since I met you, everything else- my career, me life, everything- it all lost its value."
Meredith stared at him sadly. "I feel a but coming on."
How rules can I
break
how many lies can I make
how many roads can I turn
to
find me a place where the bridge doesn't burn
Derek shook his head and laughed as he said, "I don't have a but."
O lord what can
I say
I'm so sad since you went away
time time ticking on
me
Alone is the last place I wanted to be
Lord what can I say
Meredith laughed slightly and, standing up, fell into his arms, crying.
"It's okay, it's okay," Derek consoled. "I pick you, I choose you, and Meredith Grey, I freakin' love you." He wrapped his arms around her tighter.
"I freakin' love you too, Derek," she mumbled into his chest.
O lord what can I
say
I'm so sad since you went away
time time ticking on me
Alone is the last place I wanted to be
Lord what can I say
