Last year it was The Official Unwritten Slash Month, this year it's the Official Challenge Month. The similarities? A month of fics by one author. The difference? This time, YOU are in control.
Each fic will be written based on a challenge. This can be any type of challenge, from a single word to a full-blown challenge. The rules are simple, they must be Harry Potter and they must be slash. So get involved, get reviewing and together we'll make November the Challenge Month.
(Challenges can be submitted via Reviews, or, preferably, emails until the Fanfiction messages service starts to work. If your submission is anonymous, please leave an email address so I can contact you if I chose to write your fic, this address will also be kept private.)
Challenge: "But Sirius, I'm afraid of heights", from Padfootslittlegirl.
Heights
"But Sirius, I'm afraid of heights." Remus protested as Sirus patted the space in front of him on the broomstick.
"You trust me, right, Remus?" Sirius asked, his eyes dark and desperate. Remus nodded, knowing that saying "no" would be a cruel lie and would tear Sirius' heart into pieces. Sirius beamed happily at him, and curled his hand warmly around Remus' waist. "Then trust me here, Remus."
Remus closed his eyes and nodded, straddling the broom in front of Sirius. His hands were shaking as they grasped the wooden handle, and if it wasn't for Sirius' steadying arms and soothing encouragements, he would have slipped off. Sirius smiled at him and told him to open his eyes. Remus did so slowly, eyes blinking open in the dark night. Only Sirius' floating candle was lighting the area, which made Remus feel a little better as he couldn't see his surroundings. He could still feel the ground beneath his feet, thankfully, and relaxed a little.
Sirius smiled and cupped his cheek, stroking gently. "See, all okay." Sirius cheered him, leaning forward and kissing him. Remus melted into the kiss, eyes sliding closed again and holding on tightly to Sirius. His blood warmed in his veins and his toes curled into the ground. Only, they weren't on the ground anymore.
His eyes opend wide and he pulled back with a gasp, looking around and registering that he was floating at least six foot off the ground. His hands tightened instinctively on Sirius' arms, whimpering.
"Hush, Remus. It's okay, you can't be hurt. There's a cushioning spell below us and we're not too high. We're okay, Remus, see. All okay." Remus nodded, sidling even closer to Sirius. Sirius smiled at him and kissed him again, managing to distract him successfully from the hollowness in the pit of his stomach at being so far off the ground.
As Sirius slowly lowered them back down to the ground, kissing Remus constantly until his toes could curl into warm earth. Remus reflected afterwards, as they curled warmly on the couch in Gryffindor Common Room, he might do that again some day. As long as Sirius was there to take his mind off it, of course.
