Thin Line of Gray.

In the world, things are generally seen as black and white, light and darkness. There is no room for grey areas, you were in the black or you were in the white, light or darkness.

The only thing Toph ever saw was darkness. Zuko flourished under light. Toph was supposed to be on the white side. Zuko was supposed to be in the black. However, something's can't be defined as merely black and white. Zuko was supposed to be in the black, but he was caught between a gray areas. Toph was supposed to be with the white, but she too teetered on the thin line of gray.

As both people were caught on the line of gray, so was their love. A hesitate feeling they were still trying to figure out. For two people who relied completely on themselves, never allowing anyone to break past their barriers, it was an amazing thing itself that they were in the process of letting someone in. Someone from the wrong side, but what was the wrong side? To them, there was just gray.

Five years after what seemed a never ending war, she still touched his face with hesitation and he still brushed his fingertips gently across her closed eye with fear. They both held a fear, a fear of being betrayed, and a fear of letting someone see a side of them that only themselves was aware of. When their lips met, they both were still shocked by the feeling that fell upon them. The electricity in their touch made them anticipate more.

Then they figured out this feeling they held, it was love. A positive true love that could only develop after years of hesitate touches and soft kisses. Of being able to only see the gray and not black and white, light and darkness.

Together they created balance. However, she was not his yang to his yin as some might think. That would be wrong, for she was the yin, strong and bright, and he was the yang, strong in a more silent way, and together they created a balance.
