Kakashi knew.

He knew that his team would have a great shining potential hidden within their beings. That their ideals, dreams, goals, and ambitions would push them to reach new heights in record time, he would see it in their eyes.

He knew that as their skills progressed, and they came closer and closer to those dreams and goals, that they would grow up. That they would become excellent and talented young shinobi who, no matter what or who they fought for, would surpass the generation before.

He knew that as these young shinobi progressed even farther, that some of their ideals and dreams would slip away silently, replaced by a faint understanding of the gritty world around them. But, that they would still hold their most important dreams close to their hearts in a confidant hand.

He knew that as more time passed they would go from confidently holding their ideals close by, to clinging to them desperately by their finger tips. Fighting with each mission, each death of a comrade, each life they took…to keep their dreams in sight. To feel some distant part of their childhood warm even the smallest part of their heart.

Kakashi knew. And he hated that he would be the one to lead them into that, hated that he would have to watch their innocence slip from their grasp until the only thing left was a hardened killer. He hated them for not choosing to become a farmer, or a merchant, or an artist. So it was without hesitation that he smiled and put his hand on his chin thoughfully.

"Hmm, How do I say this…? My first impression is….I don't like you guys!"

Kakashi knew.

And he mourned.
