Renewing Old Acquaintances

Teyla looked worried. Ford looked about a second from shooting something. John looked slightly panic-stricken. Rodney just looked fascinated as he stared up at the statue of the woman the natives worshipped as a goddess.

"So, you just call her name and make a wish and she appears?" Rodney sounded really enthusiastic about it.

The bemused villager nodded. "Indeed, she comes to right the wrongs committed against our women."

"But she hasn't been here long?"

"Oh no!" The woman shook her head. "She came fairly recently, as a blessing from the Ancestors. Just as they have blessed us by not troubling us with the Wraith as we have seen on other worlds."

"Well that's fantastic!"

The native beamed at him. "It is rare indeed to find a man who agrees with our position. If you wish you may stay while your friend is sentenced, it is usual for Our Lady to act in private once a wish for vengeance has been made but I am sure she will not mind being in the presence of such an enlightened male." She indicated the tent. "She will not be long, perhaps you would both like to enter and to become comfortable."

"Thank you!" Rodney grabbed John's arm. "Just relax," he murmured to Ford and Teyla. "I know what I'm doing."

John didn't appear to agree. "What the hell do you think you're playing at?" He hissed. "They're going to castrate me and you're chatting!"

"Well you shouldn't have been hitting on the leader's daughter." John's eyes popped and Rodney looked at him, exasperated. "Just trust me, okay? I said I know what I'm doing."

John looked furious but as he opened his mouth a figure appeared in the corner of the room.

"Oh shit," he cursed.

Rodney just smiled. "Hello, Anya."

Her eyes widened and her face changed. Before his eyes the wrinkled features became beautiful and a second later a smiling blonde woman was standing before them. A woman he'd met a long time ago, in a town called Sunnydale.

"Hello, Rodney."

He shook his head. "What the hell are you doing here?"

"Wait…" John interjected. "You know their Goddess?" Anya waved her hand and his mouth disappeared.

"The Powers," she rolled her eyes, "of course."

John clapped a hand to the place where his mouth used to be, panic stricken. Other than that he appeared to be frozen.

Rodney nodded sympathetically. "But what are you doing in Pegasus? And don't worry, Major, it's temporary." John didn't calm down.

She shrugged. "They said I was of more use here and that someone would come and get me. Of course, at the time I thought they were nuts. I take it that it's you."

Rodney arched an eyebrow. "Well that explains why this planet was suddenly at the front of the list of planets to be explored," he muttered.

"So can I go home now?"

Rodney shook his head reluctantly. "Sorry, Ahn, but we don't have the power to send anyone home right now and what with the Wra-" Rodney broke off abruptly and eyed her suddenly, an idea clear on his face. "And you have the power to curse any male who has wronged a woman?"

She nodded, looking almost insulted that he would doubt her. "Of course."

"Anya… Have you ever heard of the Wraith?"
