This could be any Doctor, but let's just say it's 10, shall we?
I've been to the fall of Troy… World War 5… I've met Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, Ice Warriors, Slitheen, the Yeti, Sea Devils, rogue Time Lords, and the Mighty Jagrafess of the Holy Hadrojassic Maxarodenfoe (try saying that three times when you're drunk).
And somehow, what's always amazed me the most is Earth. That one tiny blue sphere run by psychotic apes.
I suppose it's no secret that these are my favourite species. People. Ordinary, brilliant, stupid people. I've been to this planet so many times… but whenever I do, I always find something different.
Right now, I'm in London (yet again), just walking down the street to give the TARDIS a break. I'm just walking down this busy street, with so many people walking around me, and I can't help but think.
Every one of these people has their story to tell. It makes me think about what they have seen, what they will see… they all have their own part of that rich tapestry of life.
And so often, I've found myself to be the needle and thread that keeps it from falling apart. And most of them (beyond UNIT, Torchwood and the occasional conspiracy nut) don't even know I exist. Always full of their own comings and goings.
And where am I going?
To find the single greatest accomplishment this planet has ever produced.
Jelly Babies.
I buy a great big packet of them, just in case I don't come back here for a while. It's like those edible ball bearings- not one other race in the galaxy has thought to make something like that.
The best example has got to be these people I met a few months back… or was it weeks… hard to keep track when you travel in time. Huge spaceships, cities that float, and no indoor plumbing… you've got to laugh when you meet a race like that. Can't be helped.
I pay for my favourite confection in the Universe, and tell the girl behind the register to keep the change. Just because I'm in that sort of mood. She looks a little shocked, mainly because I used a £20 note to buy a £5 bag of jelly babies. That's another thing about humans… so much fun to confuse them.
I leave the shop and see that she slipped some change in the bag anyway. Nice girl.
Humans. They really are amazing creatures… you can learn all about their science and history in a month, and after 900 years, they can still surprise you…
I just got the idea and I had to do that. Oh well, please review anyway.
