Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto or any of the characters.
A/N: Going to try to keep up with a system of updating every two days, with Rich & Famous - Hat - Believe - Unbreakable in that order. If you read read most of them updates should keep you content hopefully, if you only read this one, I apologize for the wait between chapters. Though I also plan on writing daily to the point where I'll be writing ahead and not just as I go, so we'll see. I just want to pace the releases.
Sorry for the slowness on this one, had some morning work shifts then family stuff while it was sitting at halfway written lol. Here it is!
With his inheritance though he could follow the raven, if it came down to it. That seemed pretty drastic though, and shit, was there something a bit more between them than just friendship? He thought back to that look he received in Health when Sasuke said he was gay. He was probably over thinking everything, just paranoid after what Sai said. Crap he said out of bitterness and nothing more. They were just friends, Sasuke might leave, and Naruto would be just fine.
With that thought in mind, he felt resolved about things now. Pretty much. The light at the stoplight turned green and he stepped on the gas, ready to get home. Maybe he should call Kiba and ask him what he thought, prove Sai wrong.
Before he could think more on it, there was movement to his right and he glanced over just in time to see a truck running its red light. He felt a brief moment of panic, then a brief thought of a raven, then the truck was slamming into the side of his car and he wasn't thinking of anything anymore.
Chapter 14: Changes
Naruto felt himself waking up, and kept his eyes clenched shut. He wasn't comfortable in the slightest, but he was not ready to get up for school yet. He could already tell it was going to be a shitty morning, going by how groggy he already felt. Then again, his alarm wasn't going on, so maybe he had a few more hours to sleep after all.
He was resolved to go back to sleep when the pain kicked in. His right temple hurt, accompanied by a thick wetness on the side of his face. His side felt sore, and when he moved his right arm to place a hand on his head to see what was on it, his wrist felt sprained.
Naruto opened his eyes finally, and the memories of what just happened rushed back.
He sat up, disorientation kicking in when he first noticed everything everything was turned wrong. The driver side window was underneath him, intact. The truck that slammed into him flipped his damn car on its side. Thankfully nothing felt broken. Sore side, sprained wrist, and a cut on his head that wasn't even bleeding any more. The glass on the passenger side and windshield was completely shattered, so he was lucky that didn't shred him as well.
Other drivers were just now getting out of their cars to call for an ambulance and to check on him, so he wasn't even out for that long. Probably slammed his head into the window and passed out for a few seconds.
He was working on getting a spare shirt from that was behind him, planning on wrapping around his hands to crawl out through the windshield, when he saw a small rock with a slip of paper tied around it. Curious, he straightened out the slip of paper to read it.
"'When the time comes, be accommodating,'" he read out loud. He immediately thought of Sasuke, and despite the situation he was currently in, he grinned. The boy probably left it in the car before school let out and he didn't notice. It was cute, referencing how they threw message bricks through each other's windows back when they hated each other.
He pocketed the message and crawled out slowly, trying not to cut himself on the glass littering the ground around him. A woman he didn't know was there to help him up once he was out, and once he was she immediately hugged him to her chest, brushing glass from his hair. He couldn't help but feel touched by the concern.
"Thanks ma'am, but really I'm okay," he mumbled.
"Are you sure?" she said, holding him at arm's length now and frowning at the blood he imagined covered his face. By now several more people were gathered around and he could hear the ambulance siren rapidly getting closer.
"Yeah!" He smiled, and she looked less frightened for him. "My car's in worse shape than I am. Did the asshole at least stop?"
A man that was off to the side frowned. "They didn't, and their damn truck barely got dented from what I saw. I got their plate number though."
Naruto nodded, glad to hear at least that much. He said nothing else as the ambulance arrived and stopped nearby, and sighed. Today definitely sucked.
Sasuke was lying on the couch watching some stupid show he didn't know the name of. He was more lost in thought about Naruto. Going by the look of pure hatred Sai sent his way in the parking lot, Naruto had ended things. That meant the way was clear, but should Sasuke take it? Try to get with the boy of his dreams and risk making their friendship awkward, or ignore it?
"I've never actually seen you look lovesick before." Sasuke looked up to see Itachi smirking above him. He growled and threw a pillow he wasn't using at him, but his stupid older brother moved out of the way. "It was obvious he liked you even before he finally realized he was gay. Just saying, sweet little brother."
Sasuke's phone went off with a text alert and Itachi left the room while Sasuke grabbed his phone. It was from Naruto! He immediately felt embarrassed by how happy he felt just by getting a text from the stupid blond. Pathetic. He frowned at himself and opened the message.
Of course one of the few times I decide to use my own car someone hits me. :( Just letting you hear it from me first, just mostly sore so don't worry.
The raven's eyes narrowed dangerously. Someone wrecked his car and he was acting flippant about it? He growled and before he really knew it, he was out the door and storming over to Naruto's apartment, and soon enough he was pounding at the dumbass' door.
It was Jiraiya who answered, managing to look amused at Sasuke's enraged presence and worried for Naruto at the same time. He clapped Sasuke on the shoulder as he left the apartment. "He's fine, kid, but don't be too rough on him."
The door closed, leaving Sasuke and Naruto alone, the former remaining by the door glaring at the latter who was sitting on the couch with his feet propped up on the table. He noted small bandage on his head and a second wrapped around his right wrist.
"What happened?" he finally said, moving forward to join his friend on the couch.
Naruto snorted. "Some asshole ran a red light and hit my car. Cut on my head and a minor sprained wrist and sore ribs. So you can stop glaring at me now." He playfully nudged Sasuke's calf with his bare foot, and warmth shot through his body at the light contact.
He looked away from Naruto and at the muted TV, recognizing Jurassic Park. "Who was it?"
"It was a hit and run type deal, but someone got the plate and get this-the truck was reported as stolen."
Sasuke frowned. "Some asshole running lights trying to get away with the stolen vehicle."
His companion shook his head. "It sounded like it was stolen a long time ago. It's weird, really."
The two of them lapsed into a comfortable silence, Naruto jiggling his foot a bit. After a few minutes of them watching a silent dinosaur movie, the blond spoke up again, sounding hesitant. "I broke up with Sai today."
The raven grunted, though inwardly he was smirking. "I figured going by the looks I was receiving from him when he saw me going to my car."
Naruto coughed, causing Sasuke to glance at him. Was he blushing? "He still thinks I dumped him for you. I told him it was because I didn't feel anything towards him, but he didn't believe me. Said I was in denial." He laughed, though it sounded off. Perhaps laughing caused his side to hurt more.
After Sasuke chose to say nothing to that, Naruto shook his head with a sigh. Before he could him ask him what was wrong he stood up, stretching a little. "After everything that happened I'm ready to pass out. I'll be at your place in the morning."
Seeing the obvious dismissal, he got up and exited the apartment after telling the idiot to take care of himself. He trudged back to his house, frowning. Itachi swore Naruto was into him, but Sasuke noticed none of the signs that his brother apparently saw. They'd be graduating soon, anyway, and Sasuke was likely to return to his old career. Did he want to risk that friendship when he could be enjoying it instead?
When he got out of Sasuke's car in the school parking lot, he was immediately tackled back against the car door by something. His shouts to get off of him were muffled against the other person's jacket, and it didn't help when the assaulter started yelling, "YOU SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME, DICKFACE!" Ah, Kiba.
Naruto managed to get out of his friend's grasp, taking in a lungful of wonderful air. Kiba was still ranting. "Do you have any idea how scary it is to be chilling with your girlfriend and get a text from your pervert author guardian that you were in a wreck and to wait until the next day to see you?!"
"He texted me about it," Sasuke said. He didn't even have the grace to sound confused or sheepish, he sounded smug about it. Naruto sighed as Kiba snarled.
"You texted rich-boy-you-hate but not your best friend?!" Naruto immediately thought of the last conversation he had with Sai, and felt guilty. No way he would tell Kiba about that. Besides, he could have two best friends.
"I'm sorry, Kiba. Jiraiya was already over at my place, mothering me, and Sasuke was the first one I texted and he practically teleported over in his rage and I got distracted."
Kiba resorted to just pouting and turned to go back to the school entrance, muttering about how he preferred it when he and Sasuke fought and threw crap in each other's houses. A light went on in the blond's head and he looked at Sasuke, who was now by his side.
The raven raised an eyebrow. "What?"
"Are you going to tell me what the rock note meant?"
Now his brow was furrowed slightly. "Dumbass, what's a rock note?"
Naruto sighed as he slowly made his way across the parking lot to the door. "The note you left in my car yesterday before I left school. I guess. About being accommodating or something." He waggled his eyebrows at the taller boy, fighting back a blush when he realized he was feeling more hopeful than playful by the words that just left his mouth.
Either Sasuke didn't notice or pretended not to, as he only shrugged. "I didn't leave you any notes in your car. Probably Sai, before your lovely break up happened." He smirked.
The blond sighed, rubbing his hair a bit in confusion. He couldn't imagine Sai or any of his other friends leaving him a note in that manner. Possible, but doubtful. He wondered where it came from, then.
And there's that one. Next chapter should be really fun for you guys, as stuff happens! Yay! :D
