Disclamor: I don't own Harry Potter, Hufflepuff, or any related concepts. I'm just playing around with poor forgotten characters and houses. Hufflepuffs deserve love too!
AN: I haven't written Harry Potter fanfic in years, but this popped into my head tonight for some odd reason. This is just Susan Bones' thoughts on the war and Hufflepuff in general. Poor kid's been through a lot, but people have a tendency to forget that Harry isn't the only one who has to deal with tough stuff. This is a oneshot, unless I can be convinced otherwise. ;)
Who would want to be sorted into a house known only for its loyalty and hard workers?
We weren't brave.
We weren't smart.
We weren't ambitious.
But people underestimate what unrelenting hard work can do.
We are at war. People like us are the glue of our society.
When a Hufflepuff fights without a single thought of surrendering, we are brave.
When a Hufflepuff goes looking for answers, and does not stop until they are found, we become knowledgeable.
When a Hufflepuff doesn't know how to give up, no matter how huge the goal, we are ambitious.
Anything can become possible when you work for it.
No, that is not an overly optimistic and stereotypically Hufflepuff point of view. It's simply the truth.
Perhaps even more so- we are capable of embodying the characteristics of any other house, but only if we work for them. Thus we appreciate them more, because they are not handed to us by nature.
Honesty is becoming an increasingly difficult trait to find in anyone, even within our own house.
Fear does strange things to people.
But I'm not afraid, not when I've lost so much already.
All I can do is fight for what I know is right. Be loyal to those who have passed, and those who stand beside me.
We will win this war, but only if we work together. Loyalty reaching beyond house colors, as we seek to separate what is right from what is easy, even if what is right may not always seem 'good'.
It will take sweat.
It will take blood.
It will take more effort than any of us has ever put forth before.
But I know we can do it.
At the end of the day it'll be ok, because we have Hufflepuff spirit.
