It was a cold, dead winter and, as yet, there had been no snow. Like the dead leaves that were falling, she fell. No sound escaped from her lips, but someone was screaming, the school building making the screams echo hauntingly. It wasn't raining, not yet anyway, but his face was wet. The wind whispered softly in the bare tree branches and the swings squeaked quietly as the Doctor ran to Rose's side.

Tenderly, he cradled her head, begging, pleading with her unresponsive body. The empty school building's bell rung and he bowed his head over Rose's, whispering desperately. She couldn't leave him, not now, not ever… She couldn't leave him to live life alone.

Playground school bell rings again

Rain clouds come to play again

Has no one told you she's not breathing?

Hello I'm your mind giving you

Someone to talk to

Hello

Determinedly, the Doctor's head rose. It was a dream. That's all it was. Just a bad, horrible dream. He would wake up and Rose would be safe, Rose would be fine. They'd go on another adventure and save the world like usual, everything would be normal. But something nagged at the back of his mind. If this was a dream, why wasn't he waking up?

A crash of thunder overhead and the Doctor picked up Rose's body and stumbled back to the TARDIS. A comforting aura filled the air as soon as the TARDIS noticed the broken body in the Doctor's arms, but he pushed it away. He didn't need it. After all, it was only a dream.

If I smile and don't believe

Soon I know I'll wake from this dream

Don't try to fix me I'm not broken

Hello I'm the lie living for you so you can hide

Don't cry

He gently pushed the door to Rose's room open and laid her beautiful body down on her bed. Suddenly he found himself kneeling down, his face smothered in the mess of sheets on her bed, sobbing. This wasn't a dream. This was real, horribly, awfully real. Rose was gone. And he was alone. Forever alone.

Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping

Hello I'm still here

All that's left of yesterday
