Catch Me

It was an incredibly bright day in the Mist Village, and Team 7 all complained about the heat. Even as they stopped by an inn to rest, to them, it felt like it only got hotter. By dawn, the wind seemed to notice their discomfort and the gentle yet cold breeze immediately dried their sweat.

But for Naruto and Sasuke, with all the training, the sweat ran like a broken open faucet. They were in a familiar place, the place where they learned that it was actually humanely possible to climb trees without the use of hands.

Naruto collapsed on the grass, trying to regain his breath. "I won, Sasuke-teme."

"Hardly, dobe." Sasuke scoffed, leaning against a tree trunk and focusing on inhaling and exhaling. He expected a rude remark or comeback or at least a 'don't-call-me-dobe!' speech, but everything was quiet.

Naruto sat up, his eyes locked to the highest branch of a single tree. "Hey, Sasuke?"

"What?"

"If I fall," The blonde craned his head to the side, with a lopsided grin, "Will you catch me?"

Sasuke stayed silent for a moment, before Sakura's voice boomed over the forest, telling them that dinner was ready. And so, he crossed his arms, and passed a dumbfounded Naruto on his way back to the inn. "Only an idiot like you would fall."

Sasuke blinked his eyes open, yawning soundlessly. He pushed aside the blanket over his body, and left the bed, aiming to get a glass of water. His eyes automatically locked on the wall clock, squinting a bit as he read the hands through the darkness. It was barely four in the morning. Looking over at the other bed in the room, he expected a blonde head poking out of the covers, or a scrunched up lump under the blankets, but all he saw was the remains of an unmade bed.

Midnight training, huh? He sighed, and jumped out of the window, the idea for a glass of water lay forgotten.

It didn't take long for him to reach the same spot earlier, but he saw no signs of an orange-clad blonde-head.

"Hey, Sasuke-teme!"

He automatically raised his head towards the source of the sound, immediately spotting Naruto dangling upside down from the same branch he was looking at earlier by his feet using chakra, a big grin on his face. Sasuke raised an eyebrow, "Get to sleep, dobe. We start the mission tomorrow." He mumbled, but he was sure Naruto heard it. He turned away and headed back to the inn, expecting Naruto to follow.

But he nearly had a heart attack when he heard the sound of wind splitting apart to give to something heavy and solid, the sound of something falling. So he turned, and saw Naruto heading straight for the ground, and before he knew it, his feet moved of it's own accord, and he found himself lying bewildered on the grass with a jumpy Naruto on top of him.

"Don't…" Sasuke rasped out, his heart beating loudly in his chest, the adrenaline starting to disappear. "Don't ever do that again." His arms wrapped around Naruto protectively, as if that if he let go, Naruto would fall again.

Naruto merely grinned, happy but with a tinge of smugness, as he simply laid his head on the other's chest, "But you really did catch me." He chimed.

Sasuke sighed, before a content smile spread over his face.

"You really are an idiot."
