I looked at the soft yellow star-shaped fruit I held in my hands. I wanted to share this with someone a year ago, but never got the chance to. The paopu fruit. Whomever you shared it with, you ensured that that person would be with you forever.

"Riku!"

I heard the scuffing of shoes on dry sandy soil. Turning, I saw Sora running across the small offshore island to where I sat on the crooked paopu tree. His breath was sobbing a little; he had run all the way from the docks. "What's the big hurry?" I teased. Sora bent down to catch his breath, and smiled at me in that loveable, inimitable way. "Nothing, really. Just wanted to see you!"

I felt the crooked tree shake a little as Sora leap-frogged over it to stand beside me. "What's that?" Sora asked, looking at the yellow object I clutched in my hand. "Oh, it's just a paopu fruit," I replied. "A paopu?" Sora cocked an eyebrow. God, he was so cute. "Who for?"

"Wouldn't you like to know."

Sora shrugged, and put his hands behind his head, like he always does. "Is it for Kairi?" he said. Did he sound…a little disappointed? "No," I replied, grinning, and changed the topic. "Isn't the sunset nice today?" "Mm, yeah," I heard him say, a little distant. I slipped off the tree, and stood closer to him. "Here," I said, holding out a piece of yellow fruit to him. I saw his eyes widen. "R-Riku…? Is that…?"

"You wanted to know who the paopu was for, didn't you? Well, now you do."

He accepted the fruit without any hesitation, a soft pink flush tinting those smooth bronzed cheeks of his. I myself ate a piece of that star-shaped fruit; it tasted very much like a peach, or a mango, and was pleasant. Sora smiled coyly up at me. "I thought you liked Kairi…" "What made you assume so?" I chuckled, bending down to meet his lips with my own. He tasted so sweet, what with paopu juice on his lips.

When I pulled away from him, Sora purred softly and wrapped his arms around me.

"I love you, Riku."

"You too, Sora."

The simple things in life are truly best shared.
