Prologue

Harry's mind was buzzing. He was going to leave the Dursleys. He was going to live with Sirius Black, his

parents best friend...He felt dazed. What would happen when he told the Dursleys he was going to live with

the convict they'd seen on televison.

"One wrong move, Peter," said Lupin threateningly ahead. His wand was pointed sideways at Pettigrew's

chest. Silently they tramped through the grounds, the castle lights growing slowly larger. And then a cloud

shifted. There were were suddenly dim shadow on the ground. Their party was bathed in moonlight. Black

froze. He flung his arm out to make Harry and Hermione stop. Harry could see Lupin's silhoette. He had gone

rigid. Then his limbs began to shake.

"He's not safe!" Hermione gasped.

"Run!" Black whispered. There was a terrible snarling noise. Lupin's head was lengthening. So was his body.

His shoulders were hunching. Hair was sprouting visibly on his face and hands which we curling into paws. As

the werewolf reared snapping it's jaws Sirius disappeared from Harry's side. The enormous bearlike dog leapt

at the werewolf. Harry stood transfixed but the sight too intent to notice anything else. It was Hermione's

scream that alerted him to Pettigrew diving for Lupins wand.

"Expelliarmus!" Harry yelled but it was too late. Pettigrew had transformed. He scurried through the grass

and disappeared. The wolf's growl was so loud that they did not hear the shout of "Immobulas" in the

distance. The werewolf threw the dog that was Sirius into the air. Harry and Hermione grabbed Ron under the

arms and pulled him away from the werewolf that was slowly stalking them.

"Nice Doggy," Ron whimpered. The werewolf reared back and lunged at them. Suddenly a loud bang was

heard and the werewolf with a yelp the werewolf crashed to the ground unmoving. They turned in the

direction the noise had come and saw a flash of red hair...
