I'm Already There: written by Chibikan

Inspired by Lonestar's "I'm Already There"

Summary: Yes, another no lyric songfic. This time following President Shinra in years prior to the original game. Taking a deeper look into the man who is well known for his greed and power , not to mention is multi-billion gil company.

Sherman Shinra, the president of the most successful power company since the discovery of Mako, sat in his lone hotel room many miles away from home. Yet another business trip had called him away from his wife and small son. How he hated to leave them so much, but he had to continue growing his company. Not for himself, but for those poor deprived citizens still living in areas powered by coal and petroleum. Yes, he'd decided it was his mission in life to supply these people with a more efficient power system. And if it happened to fill his bank account in the process, who was he to complain. But, though he would admit to no one, he really wished he was back in his large mansion. Back there, playing "horsey" with little Rufus, and presenting his wife, Elizabeth with a twenty-four karat diamond necklace he'd bought for her upon his arrival. Reaching to the nightstand, he picked up the hotel phone and dialed. He needed to hear her voice say "I love you" one more time before he went to sleep.

"Hello, Lizzie, yes yes, I made it in fine. I miss you too dear." He smiled. The sounds of his boy running over and begging his mother for the phone filled his heart with a joy unmatched not even by the endless chinking of coins into his wallet.

"DADDY DADDY!" The small voice hollered into his ear, forcing him to hold the phone away from his ear a little bit. " Daddy, guess what, I caught a frog today! Can I keep it, can I, can I?"

Sherman laughed. "No, son, frogs belong in the pond in the backyard, not in your bedroom or your pocket. "

"Oh," Was all little Rufus said, in understanding. "Daddy, when you coming home?"

Shinra could not tell him soon, because negotiations with a new town always took many days, sometimes weeks if things went wrong. There was only one thing he could tell him. "But Rufus, I'm already there. Take a look around you. I'm the sunshine in your hair, the shadow on the ground, your imaginary friend. And I know I'm in your prayers. I'm already there." He wiped a silent tear from his cheek. He waited for an answer, but it was his wife who spoke next.

"Sherman, you know I really miss you, right? Don't worry, Rufus will be fine. Maybe when you get home we should discuss getting him a pet." came the sweet tones of her voice.

"Dear, I am already there. Shhh, don't cry, I know I'm away too much. Don't make a sound, I'm the beat in your heart, the whisper in the wind. And we're together in the end. Don't you feel it, the love we share. I'm already there." He reassured her, as he had done for his son. "No matter how many miles apart, I'm with you, wherever you are. I'm there, with you. And I'll be home soon. I promise." Shinra smiled again. "Yes Lizzie, I love you too. Tell Rufus, I love him for me. Good night, darling."

AN: Yes, short, sweet, to the point, but all the while full of emotion. Yes it is inspired by "I'm Already There" by Lonestar. This is a no-lyric songfic and I'm slowly learning how to write them so as not to breech the rules on I hope you all enjoyed. I do not own FFVII or Shinra or Rufus. I do own Elizabeth though. I also do not own "I'm Already There" Lonestar does.
