And Harry saw the look of mingled fear and surprise on his godfather's wasted, once-handsome face as he fell through the ancient doorway and disappeared behind the veil, which fluttered for a moment as though in a high wind and then fell back into place.

Harry heard Bellatrix Lestrange's triumphant scream, but knew it meant nothing-Sirius had only just fallen through the archway, he would reappear from the other side any second… But Sirius did not reappear.

"SIRIUS!" Harry yelled, "SIRIUS!" (Page 806, Order of the Phoenix)

"HARRY!" Sirius shouted back, "HARRY!"

Harry, however, couldn't hear him. Sirius stood at the archway of the veil and pushed as hard as he could; trying to go back through it, only he couldn't. He felt as though some invisible force field was preventing him from returning to help his godson.

"No, NO! NOOO!" Sirius shouted and violently started banging his fists against the curtain of the veil, but the curtain wouldn't move, it felt as though it had turned into a steel door.

"NO!" Sirius shouted again as he sank down onto his knees, tears filling his eyes, "No, Harry!"

"You can't help him anymore, Sirius." A voice said from behind him. Sirius recognized that voice and slowly turned his head.

A man with messy black hair and hazel eyes was standing before him. It was James. He had a sad smile on his face, "There isn't anything we can do; you can't help Harry anymore."

"NO!" Sirius yelled and stood up, trying to get through the veil again, "No, I have to help Harry, he needs my help!"

James walked over to Sirius and pulled him away from the veil, holding Sirius back as he struggled against James' grip, "Sirius, you can't help Harry. Trust me, I've tried. You've done everything you possibly could to help him, you've been a great godfather and I'm sure Harry will never forget all that you've done for him, but you can't help him any longer Padfoot."

Sirius stopped struggling and James let him go. Sirius looked at the veil and then turned to James, "We can't ever go back?"

James shook his head, "No."

Sirius looked at the veil for a moment; from behind it he could still hear Harry and Remus.

"There's nothing you can do, Harry -"

"Get him, save him, he's only just gone through!"

"- it's too late, Harry."

"We can still reach him –"

"There's nothing you can do, Harry... nothing... he's gone." (still page 806)

James sighed and put his hand on Sirius' shoulder, "Come on, Sirius. There isn't anything we can do. Let's go and find Lily, I'm sure she'll make you a nice cup of tea."

"You can get tea in this place?" Sirius asked as he looked around.

"Of course you can." James said with an encouraging smile, "The best tea around."

James led Sirius away from the veil. Sirius stopped and turned back to look at it one last time. Then he slowly turned away, leaving behind Harry and Remus, going beyond the veil.
