A/N: Just a little drabble I feel like writing. It's gonna suck, but hey, that's to be expected from me.
I don't own it.
I look up from the tomato plant I was watering, brushing the sweat off my head. The Summer Sun was shining particularly bright today, and the crops needed more water than usual. In the back of my mind, I hear the chickens in the coop and the cows in the field. Smiling to myself, I move on to the next plant.
When I moved here, I wasn't too sure I would like farming. But, the more I worked, the more I grew to love it. There is a simple satisfaction in eating something grown with your own hands, knowing that these plants and animals depend on you.
That was the last plant. I walk over to the small fountain by the chicken coop and splash some cool water on my fish. I know I should really stay at the farm today and look after the crops and animals, but I could really use a drink. Besides, I won't be gone long.
Walking down the path to the Blue Bar, I smile and wave at the people as they pass me by, hoping that she would walk by. Sighing, I realize that it won't be likely. She is just dedicated to her own crops as I am to mine.
The door causes a bell to ring as I enter. Griffin nods at me and indicates for me to take a seat, already pouring my favorite drink.
"So, how's the farm?" he asks in a gruff voice as he hands me the mug.
"Great," I say after a long drought of the liquor. "Takakura's still on me to get married though." I hear Muffy giggle a little farther down. I close my eyes, sighing. Sure, Muffy is nice and all, but she just doesn't have a sense of self. She gets too involved in current fads and trends.
Griffin laughs. "Yeah, I heard the old coot is like that." He starts to dry out an empty mug. "I guess it is important to have a family though. Love can bring things never before imagined." I laugh, wondering aloud whether or not bartenders take a class on being so insightful. He grins and gives some sarcastic reply.
I smile and tell him to put the drink on my tab as I leave, bumping into Nami on the way out the door. "Watch where you're going." She sneers as she takes her seat at the bar. I just shake my head and start back towards my farm, thinking about the fiery redhead. Navi was...just so distant. And while I can respect that, I can't understand it. It doesn't help that she's always off on some adventure.
And as I'm about to turn the cornet into my farm, that's when I see her, dark hair glistening with sweat, but dark eyes still dancing with laughter. She stops as she sees me, a smile appearing on her tender face. "I was just coming over to see you!" she says in her melodious voice. "Vesta wanted me to give you these sweet potato seeds for next season. We accidently grew too many and didn't want the results to go to waste."
I knew she was lying. I may be new to this town, but I know Vesta well enough to know that she doesn't part with anything for free. "Thanks," I say as I take the seeds. An awkward silence followed. It's blatantly apparent that neither of us wants the other to leave.
"Uh, would you like a tour of the farm?" I ask, not sure what to do. At least this way, I could spend more time with her.
"Sure!" she smiles, hooking her arm within mine. "I want to see it all!"
And it's then, walking around my farm, arm in arm, I know who it is to be.
