"Hinata, why are you crying?"
Hinata shook her head and tried to smile. "I'm sorry, what did you say?" she said, finally allowing a weak expression to show.
Naruto cleared his throat and repositioned his foot in his kneel. "I said," he took a deep breath. "—will you marry me?"
She looked at the tiny box he was presenting her with, and then took it from him, opening it up and admiring the beautiful diamond that would be hers.
"Hinata, why are you crying?"
Naruto watched her hopefully.
"I think…" she began, standing up and placing the case down on the table. "I have to think about it."
Even though she felt so sorry, she knew she wouldn't be able to marry Naruto. She turned her back to him and walked away, keeping her head down, knowing that he was watching her.
"Hinata!" he called. "Hey, Hinata!"
But she did not look back. And he did not chase her.
"Hinata, why are you crying?"
It was raining.
"Kiba…" she touched his red stained chest. A single kunai pierced his heart, and blood pooled under and around him. There was a stream of blood falling from his mouth.
"Hinata—" Kiba choked as more blood erupted from his mouth and splattered on her. His head fell back to the ground, and she put her hand under it. "Don't cry, Hinata. It will all be all right."
"I'm not crying, Kiba." She said. "It's raining."
"Oh." Kiba said, his eyes closing.
"Kiba, don't close your eyes." Hinata begged.
"I love you."
Hinata froze, and thunder exploded in the sky.
"I love you too." She answered.
"Marry me?" he asked.
"Of course." She said, without hesitating.
He didn't say anything else, his mouth hung open. She pulled him in close for a hug as the rain fell around them. She wasn't crying, but the skies were.
"Hinata—" Naruto grabbed Hinata's arm and turned her around.
She touched the spot her chest where Kiba's blood had fell on her. Then she looked up at Naruto.
"Yes, Naruto?" she said.
"It's about him, right?" he asked.
Hinata blinked and shook her head. "No," she said. "I just…I'm not ready to be married right now."
Naruto stared deeply into her eyes. "Are you crying?" he said finally.
"Don't cry, Hinata. It will all be all right."
Hinata shook her head. "No." she said.
"Don't cry, Hinata. It will all be all right."
"Will you think about it?" Naruto said.
"About what?" Hinata replied.
"About my proposal." Naruto reminded her.
"Oh yes." Hinata said, with only a little hesitation. "Of course."
