Hello all, I, sodacolapop,am back :)
Like Two Comets
Sept. 12, 2003
"It's cold here..."
The girl paused, rubbing her bare hands together. The cold was seeping through her skin, despite the thick layers of clothes she had on. Not a minute had passed since she had set foot outside, and already, she was chilled to the bone.
Her companion came to stand beside her, surveying the scene with his shaded eyes. "I find it sad."
"Hmm?" she looked at him, a frown on her face. She didn't think she heard him right.
"I find it sad..." He gave her a sidelong glance, and she found herself shivering not because of the cold... "Don't you think so?"
Her gaze swept back to view the darkened scenery. A thin blanket of fog stretched out before them, making it seem as though they were both looking at the moon and the stars behind a clean white curtain. The slightest smile touched her lips. "I think it's romantic."
She stepped forward, resting her hands on the wooden banister of the well before pulling herself up. He drew in a ragged breath, reaching out a hand only to have her dance away from his reach, her lithe frame balancing on dainty toes.
"Y- you might fall ..."
"Angels can fly, right?" And she looked back at him, wide eyes glistening with silent laughter. They reminded him of stars, the same ones being reflected in twin scarlet pools. "I wish I was an angel."
He wanted to tell her that she already was, to him and her father especially, but found that he could not bring himself to do so. It was at that moment, when the softest shard of moonlight was bathing her pale skin and the clean mist was gathering by her feet, he started seeing her as the lady she had become - despite her childish ways, she was no longer a child that constantly needed him.
"Just be careful, ok?" He let his hand fall to his side.
"I'm watching my step, don't worry..." She laughed softly, the mild sound reminding him of the gentle tinkle of wind chimes. She stretched an arm to brush wisps of hair from his ashen face. "It's not like you'd let me fall..."
He nodded and stared up at her, feeling her touch trail down from his forehead until it rested on his right cheek.
"And if ever I do fall, I know... I know you'd catch me."
"Of course." He took her tiny hand, clasped it between both of his and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
She opened her mouth to say something but he brought one hand up, laying a finger on her parted lips, effectively quieting her.
"I won't let you fall..." Even in the darkness, his eyes sought hers. He allowed his lips to lightly graze the soft skin of her palm before freeing it from his grasp. "Not now..." The corners of his lips lifted into a half smile. "Not ever."
With that, he closed the small gap between their lips, sealing the pact with the sweetest kiss.
Author's Notes: cheesy ending, I know, but it seemed fitting to me then (years and years back, as you can see). I was glad I found this, when I was looking through some of my computer's back up files. Anyway, I wrote this, with the intent of recreating the scene of Tifa and Cloud's promise. I wanted to portray them as the young man and young lady that they were, back when this happened. I hope I succeeded.:) Oh yeah, the title was inspired by a line in a song called "No Me Ames" (Don't Love Me).
Oh yeah, to those who know me, Shades of Gray and The Night a Star Fell would be coming back SOON, but I am in dire need of a Beta writer. To those interested, do contact me. :)
And to everyone reading this, thank you very much. :) Reviews, comments and critiques are highly appreciated.
