The space was darker than void as all seemed silent. The ARK appeared to be deserted if anything as it soon proved itself wrong. Footsteps were heard down one of the darkened hallways as there appeared to be a shadow moving amongst the darkness. A light soon came on as the shadow revealed itself to be a black hedgehog.
His purpose for being here was unknown to him as he continued his trek.
"Come on, Shadow!"
She stood at the end of the hallway. Her blonde hair the sunshine to his mind as her ocean eyes matched her outfit of blue. The hedgehog often wondered why she cared for him and why her innocence always seemed to be brought out by her youth. She was truly a sight to behold as her excitement seemed to ring out in her voice.
He neared her as she took his hand and began to run off into the night with him. He kept up to the best of his abilities as she nearly dragged him to the control room. She left Shadow's side and played with a few buttons before stepping away and reuniting with the hedgehog.
The controls blinked for a moment before revealing to them the Chaos Emeralds. Maria was clueless about what they were as Shadow's eyes widened.
'Is this...what the Doctor wants me to get?'
"Aren't they pretty, Shadow?"
"Huh?"
"I said, aren't they pretty? I love the green colored one."
"Why that one?"
"Because it reminds me of Earth."
"Maria, what's Earth?"
"Well, it's-come on I'll show you!"
She grabbed his hand once again and led him to a huge window on the ARK. She sat beside him as he stared out at the planet. Clouds of eternal white shrouded over it as beneath was the oceans of blue and the continents. Maria's eyes glowed with wonder as Shadow's hid dismay. To think, the Doctor wanted him to destroy this. This one thing that made Maria's heart twirl and her appearance if anything, seem more beautiful than Earth itself. But why was he thinking this? He was meant to be a killing machine not a teddy bear.
"Shadow."
"Yes, Maria?"
"Someday...if we ever get out of here...promise me that we'll always be together."
"Maria...," the hedgehog looked away deep in thought. He knew this girl for just a while and yet, he began to have feelings for her. But he wondered if he could keep a promise and yet, somehow he already knew what it was.
"I promise," he responded.
The stars never seemed brighter than in her eyes as she now rose before him. His breath got caught in the moment of time as her face neared his. He didn't move at all as he allowed her to kiss him lightly on the cheek. When she pulled away he turned a light pink. She giggled a bit as he found himself in a sea of confusion.
"Maria, what was that?"
"It's called a kiss. People give it to one another when they really love each other."
Somehow Shadow seemed to understand this thing titled love. He gave her an emotionless look before showing off a slight smile. She gave the same expression back as they both walked to her room. Along the way, Shadow couldn't help but to ponder on if they would get out of the ARK. Not that they didn't like it there it was just that there was so much more to see than just the dark hallways and controls. There was the Earth.
What was there that there wasn't on the ARK?
What was their purpose for going to Earth?
What was three future there if there was going to be one?
He didn't know.
But for now, he took Maria's hand as they now entered her room with emotions of love, and friendship all together.
