Locked up
When Harry was a child he owned no smile. The Dursleys hid it in a cupboard, and no matter how hard he looked for the key the cupboard remained locked.
When Harry was told he was a wizard he could see the key, though he wasn't brave enough to reach for it.
A blond boy brushed the key at a store, and Harry was scared.
When Harry met a boy with red hair on the train to his new life, he had courage enough to grab for it himself.
Even if a blond boy tried to snatch it out of his hand.
When Harry, Ron and their new friend Hermione knocked out a troll, they grabbed the key for him.
The blond boy insulted them.
When Harry woke up in the hospital wing and Ron's sister was alive, his two best friends turned the key for him, but the lock had begun to get rusty, and the cupboard remained closed.
A blond boy laughed.
When Harry's godfather showed up and offered Harry a place to stay, Sirius managed to open the door for him.
A slytherin sulked.
But when Sirius died, the same door swung shut again and Harry lost the key.
And by the time Cedric died, Harry had stopped looking for it.
One pureblood didn't.
The years passed and Ron and Hermione were able to mend the rusty lock, but they found no key. Harry didn't do much to help.
But one boy was searching.
The end of seventh year and the locked cupboard were messily covered and stuffed into a corner.
Two years later and a man appeared at Harry's doorstep, an exultant smile grazing his face.
One hand held out in front of him, an open palm, and Harry cared.
Draco gave a shy smile and sheepishly scratched his neck.
"Can I come in?"
And Harry turned the key, opened the door and smiled.
Voldemort shuddered.
