Special Shoes Kartik shuddered. Something was approaching. He felt his blood run cold and his stomach turn over. The figure was getting closer and closer. It was a woman. Could it be Circe? He straitened up, ready to fight to the death.

But, it wasn't Circe. No, it was somebody much worse.

It was...

It was...

It was... Gemma Doyle?

"He-llo, Kartik!" Gemma sang, announcing her presence. She pranced up to Kartik,
Felicity and Ann following. "Fine weather we're having, say what?"

Kartik backed away. He remembered the first day he'd met Gemma. Ever since that day, Gemma had grown onto a particularly nasty habit.

Just then, a poor, defenseless, and very cranky old man walked by. "Get off my lawn,
you whippersnappers!"

"We're not on your lawn," Ann replied, stupidly. "We're in the forest outside of Spence Academy. There's not even a house any where near here."

"I said get off my lawn!" The old man waved his cane wildly.

"I'll take care of him," Gemma whispered. She stepped forwards, coming face to face with the old man.

"Oh, yeah? What can you do?" the old man laughed.

Gemma's eyes narrowed. "Watch me."

Kartik shut his eyes and winced. He tried his best not to think of the incredible pain that the old man would receive.

Pow!

The old man let out a yelp and crumpled to the ground.

"Poor, old fool," Kartik muttered. "I, too, know the pain."

Ann looked astonished. "Why, Gemma, did you just kick that old man between his legs?"

Gemma stood proudly. "Yes, I certainly did!"

At that moment, a cute, little puppy walked by.

"Nooooooooooooooo!" Kartik shouted.

But, it was too late. Gemma had kicked the puppy, as well.

"Wow! Did you see that?" Felicity cried in glee. "That dog must've flown fifty feet or so!
You should really try out for professional football."

Ann gaped. "Wow, Gemma. You kick so much ass you should have to wear special shoes."

"Yeah," Felicity agreed. She glanced at Kartik. "And she kicks Kartik's ass so much he should have to wear special underwear!"

As if on cue, Gemma lunged forwards. Kartik took off, running for his life. Gemma chased after him.

Kartik was doomed from the start.

In one swift motion, Gemma Kicked forwards at Kartik.

Kartik fell to the ground. "Holy crap! Not again! Not again!"

Felicity and Ann caught up to Gemma, who was smiling at her work. "You know,
Gemma," Ann whispered, "if you keep doing that to every man in England, none of them will be able to have children any more."

"That's fine," Felicity responded for Gemma. "I hate kids."

"I kick kids," Gemma said, dreamily.

With that, the three girls pranced off through a field of daisies, leaving Kartik on the ground.

"Sometimes," Kartik thought, "I wish I was a woman."
