Just Needs Glue

"GAAAAAH! I CAN'T DO THIS!"

Hinamori looked up at Renji's shout, her brows furrowed with concern.

"What's wrong, Abarai-kun?" she asked.

"THIS!" Renji snarled, gesturing wildly at the paper chain that was dangling limply from the wall. "IT WON'T STAY UP!"

Hinamori's frown deepened, and she walked over to inspect the broken chain. "You didn't glue it together properly, Abarai-kun," she said, holding up a broken end. "That's why it came apart."

Renji shot Hinamori a deadpan look.

"I couldn't tell," he said sarcastically. Hinamori shot him a look that said: 'That wasn't very nice, Abarai-kun!', and Renji said: "Look, I glued that thing together ten gazillion times. It just won't stay on!"

"You obviously just aren't gluing it right!" Hinamori said.

"How can you FAIL AT GLUING?" Renji asked.

"I don't know," Hinamori said, "but you've obviously done it." She giggled a little at the annoyed/hurt expression on Renji's face. "I'm just teasing, Abarai-kun," she said. "The paper's just being a little grumpy. Here, let me have the glue." She took the glue from Renji's hands and glued the paper link back together. She squeezed the ends together for a moment to make sure the glue set, then let go. "See? You just have to work with it a little."

Renji hrmphed irritably, but as Hinamori had resolved his problem, he decided not to get into a fight about it. Besides, who the hell could fight with Hinamori? She'd turn those big wibbly eyes on you and BAM! There goes your offense. And defense. And before you know it you're begging for mercy. It just wasn't fair. Renji wanted to be able to wibble like that. We're stopping this line of thought right THERE.

"Now!" Hinamori said decisively. "We need to get started on –"

Swish. Down went another link.

Hinamori and Renji both eyed the fallen chain.

"Just a little glue!" Hinamori said cheerfully, and went to repeat the process on this new chain. Just as she had put some glue on:

Swish. Another link broke.

"Ehehe," Hinamori giggled nervously. "They just need glue!"

Renji grumbled. After having spent hours working on those damn chains, he wasn't exactly looking forward to spending another few hours re-working them.

"Come on, Abarai-kun!" Hinamori said, handing Renji a thing of glue. "The sooner we start, the sooner we finish! And with two of us working –"

SWUSH.

"– it shouldn't take long at all," Hinamori finished weakly, staring at the pile of fallen links.

"Screw this," Renji snarled. "This is ridiculous. There's gotta be SOMETHING else we can do!"

"But it would have looked so nice!" Hinamori protested. "And we can still do it! We just need glue!" This, it seemed, had become a mantra for Hinamori. "Now let's get to work, Abarai-kun!" Resolutely she began picking up the fallen links and gluing them back together. Renji sighed, but he knew that any protest would only lead to Wibbling. Damn girls. He plopped down on the ground beside Hinamori and began gluing together fallen links.

"Abarai? Hinamori?" Renji and Hinamori looked up guiltily at Hitsugaya, who stood gaping in the doorway.

"Hitsugaya!" Hinamori exclaimed.

Hitsugaya looked around the room.

"Hinamori," he said slowly, "what are you doing to my office?"

Hinamori giggled, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment.

"Ummmm..." she said slowly, "happy birthday?"
