Star: Hello again! It's me! I've decided to post this drabble challenge on this site. (My second one. Woot!) I'm not too good with drabbles. I just can't seem to say what I want with the limits. I never was good at writing short stories. But I hope this is good enough.

Summary: Emotions are such funny things. One bad emotion can lead to a good one. How does that work? Yugi knows first hand.

Fear.

What was it?

Was it that tight feeling in your chest when you know something bad was about to happen? Was it that shaking sensation in your bones when you watched a scary movie? Or was it something else entirely? Something that couldn't be explained as easily as that?

For Yugi, fear was a normal part of his life. He had grown so used to it, that fear had become his number one emotion. Fear from bullies, fear of failing, fear of being abandoned, and the simple fear of the dark.

Yes, he was afraid of the dark. Who wouldn't be? The darkness was all consuming. It was capable of turning the wisest man into a mentally insane idiot. It was capable of hiding the monsters and tormentors that liked to reach out to grab him. He absolutely loathed the darkness. And he vowed that he always would.

That is, until he met HIM.

This one, dubbed 'Yami', was the embodiment of the one thing he hated most. The dark. And yet…Yugi found he couldn't hate this one. Couldn't hate this yami who had the power of the dark, who bent the shadows to his every command. Couldn't despise this one, whose eyes shone bloody red while he hid in the constant black of the puzzle. No matter what the circumstances, Yugi found that in his heart there was no hate towards this one.

Why couldn't he hate Yami?

The answer was simple. Yami was a part of him. More than just the bond of yami and hikari. More than just the connection the puzzle gave him. Yami was a part of his heart and his soul, and they were joined in the deepest of ways. They couldn't let go of each other.

Of course it wasn't always like that. When he first found out about Yami he was a bit scared. To find that his greatest fear was living inside him was a bit of a shock. But as time went on, as the darkness and the light continued to entwine, that fear disappeared to be replaced by feelings more powerful. Admiration, friendship, trust, and love.

It was a love like no other.

This wasn't the love of guardian and charge, nor was it the love of friends or brothers. This love came from the depths of Yugi's heart and slowly filled him, like a fire that consumed him to his core. How was it possible? How did one go from hating the dark and everything associated with it, to loving Darkness itself? How could this child of the shadows capture his heart so easily?

The answer to that was also simple.

This darkness gave him something he could never find in the light. Love. This darkness, Yugi's Yami, loved him just as much. He was now, and forever would be, bound to Yami. For wherever the light goes, darkness always follows.

So, what was fear?

Nothing.

Fear, to him, no longer existed. It was just a silly emotion chased away by the pretty dark. Silly, stupid emotion.
