He Wasn't Exactly Awake!

The Infamous Inn Scene!

Note: So you want to recruit Albel Nox to your team before that all those lame plot twists with The Blue Haired Ones and The Big Eyed One? You'd better be careful if you decide to take this course...things might get a little crazy.

The door to Fayt's room slowly creaked open, a narrow shaft of light pouring in.

Fayt continued to sleep, unperturbed.

A small click signaled the door being shut again and the room was plunged into darkness. Only the slightest of sound was made with every step as the intruder crept towards the bed. The curtains were half open and bathed the man in a silver light before he slunk into the shadows, drawing closer to his target.

Fayt rolled to one side and let out a loud snore.

The figure stopped next to Fayt's side. He waited patiently, wondering if Leingod was truly sleeping or not. A brief gust of wind blew through the open window, parting the curtains and casting the moon's light on both Fayt and his unknown guest. The intruder's lips curled into a wicked smile.

Fayt was drooling.

The man raised both arms, revealing a drawn blade. There was a short pause, maybe second thoughts racing through his head. The blade flashed, catching the light for a single instant as it raced down towards its victim.

A loud scream filled the night air and all was silent again.

Nel Zelpher sprinted down the hallway towards the source of the sound, rubbing sleep from her tired eyes.

"Albel? What happened?" Nel gazed at the swordsman, who was leaning against the door to Fayt's room. A sword was held in his claw, blood dripping off from the tip, forming a small puddle where it fell. "Nox!"

Nel's voice broke through to him, knocking the look of shock off his face and turning it into one of extreme guilt. Albel's eyes widened and he stared at the Crimson Blade, mouth open, no words coming out.

"Why...blood? What's going on here?" All traces of weariness disappeared from her face, a theory for what had happened forming in her head. "Fayt...is he...?"

"Wasn't awake...after all," Albel whispered, slowly rising to his full height. Nel's eyes widened and she let out a small gasp.

"Hey! What's wrong, guys?" Cliff called from a little farther down the hall.

"Um...shit!" Albel sheathed his sword in one motion and took off towards the inn's exit.

"What's his problem?" Cliff asked, nudging Nel with his elbow.

"Albel...he...Fayt," Nel muttered, unable to think properly at the moment.

"Yeah, right then. I'll check on Fayt," Cliff said, striding over towards the door, oblivious to the pool of blood right in front of it. "Hey Fayt-!"

A pause.

A gruesome discovery was made.

Another scream shattered the peaceful night.

If this is how things went down, Star Ocean would have been a very, very short game.

Peace out!
