… because nothing says love like a mouthful of dirt.

Keladry hates to be a cliché but she really did fall for Owen; fast and hard.

A lesser mortal would blame Lords Raoul and Wyldon – it was their nasty gambling habits and male superiority struggles that had brought about the bet in the first place – but Kel has long since learned not to place her shortcomings on the heads of others.

Making a long (and no doubt tedious) story short, Wyldon had indeed taught his squire very, very well. Apparently, he's also passed along his legendary jousting skills; from one generation to the next, Wyldon unseats Raoul and Owen sends Kel flying as if she weren't the prodigious fighter that she is.

As her body screams in agony, the rational part of Kel's brain points out that she must be barking mad. Yes, this is the only explanation: as she spits out a mouthful of dirt, she realizes that she's in love.

Just so you know my pain - KelxOwen is like, my least favourite pairing ever. And that's coming from a very large number of strange and twisted pairings that make the normal standards of "strange and twisted" look like sweet, cuddly animals.
