Summary: She wanted to dance … one shot - set after 1.o8 "Confidence Man"
Author's notes: Blame Lifehouse's "You belong to me" for this … after hearing this song I couldn't get a certain picture out of my mind and just had to write something – even if it doesn't make much sense.
Thanks to Claire, for correcting my mistakes and being as wonderful as she is.

Dance with me

"Dance with me."

"Excuse me?" He stared at her outstretched hand and noticed, for the first time, the thin lines scratched in her skin.

"Dancing, you know … two people, making strange moves … " Her voice trailed off and he wondered if she was just an imagination of his mind. Or maybe the island was playing with him, wouldn't be the first time. He was too tired to care so he decided to play along.

"Can't dance, Freckles." Plain lie and she knew it. "Besides, the sand is far too comfortable to stand up right now."

She didn't answer and shifted one foot through the sand. He tried to ignore her and watched the waves rolling in. It was a beautiful night, one you would read about in a travel magazine. Marvelous white sand, crystal blue ocean, a night made for romance.

"How are you?" He raised his head and tried to read in her eyes what she wanted. Finally he admitted to himself that he had no clue why she was here.

He was caught in surprise when she took his hand.

"Come on, I wanna dance," she said again. He could swear he had heard a hint of tiredness mixed with exhaustion in her voice. Maybe she was drunk and didn't know what or whom she was asking. He stood up and smelled on her neck for a second. No alcohol.

She leaned against him and closed her eyes. He put his other hand around her waist. In an imitation of a real dance he took small steps and wasn't sure if he only lulled her to sleep or if this actually was what she had wanted.

"I'm sorry," she whispered. He stopped.

"What for?"

"For … " Her eyes refused to meet his. "For letting that happen." Her fingers brushed his arm briefly and he finally knew what she wanted.

"Just dance, Freckles … just dance," he whispered.
