Teacher's Pet

The door to John's room slid shut thus ending the conversation between him and Rodney.

"Do you think he knows?"

John sat next to Elizabeth on the couch. "Nah. I think he figures I'm just the teacher's pet." He grinned at her and slid his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close to him. "Which I guess he's right about that."

"Ha. Ha. I image you were probably a teacher's nightmare," she said, resting her head on his shoulder.

"They all loved me."

"So what did Rodney want anyway?"

"It can wait till tomorrow." He placed a gentle kiss on her hair while picking up the remote and pushing play. "This is our night to relax and forget about work."

"But if it's…"

He kissed her softly. "It's nothing that can't wait until tomorrow," he whispered. "Now stop thinking about Atlantis and reports and whatever and enjoy the game."

Elizabeth laughed and snuggled closer to him. "I still can't believe you smuggled your own personal TV back to Atlantis."

"Yeah, yeah."

"And I can't believe you actually managed to get me hooked on football." She covered a yawn.

John reached behind him and pulled down a blanket, covering both of them with it while he set the remote down and wrapped both his arms around the woman with him. "I already set the alarm in case we fall asleep," he assured her. "You'll have no problem sneaking out of here." He sighed. "I just wish you didn't have to."

Hazel eyes smiled at him. "I know. I wish that too but I don't think many would look too kindly upon the two leaders of this expedition 'hooking up' as they say." She sat up as he stretched out on the couch then lay back down beside him pulling the blanket up over them both once again.

Running his fingers through her hair, John whispered, "Speaking of 'hooking up', do you really care about this football game?"

"Well, it is the Giants and the Eagles and I'm always interested to see who Philly fans will boo next," she grinned, looking at him.

He pulled her head down gently and kissed her.

"Suppose it can wait," she mumbled into the kiss. Suddenly she pulled away. "John, if I wasn't here right now, what would you do?"

"What? What are you talking about?"

"I mean if we weren't here making out and Rodney came to you with that request, what would you do?"

"Probably radio you to discuss it," he admitted. "But what does that have to do with…"

She reluctantly rolled off him and stood up. "Then we probably should radio Caldwell and tell him to meet us in my office to discuss it."

Bewildered, John just lay on the couch and stared at her.

"If we are going to be in a relationship and run Atlantis, we have to prove to ourselves that we can do both. That one will not interfere with the other." She straightened her shirt and ran a hand through her hair. "John?"

Slowly he, too, stood up, walked over to her and kissed her gently. "You're right. But just once I would like to have a night just for us."

"We will," she said, smiling at him. Placing the earpiece back in her ear, she tapped it once. With a slight squeeze to John's hand, they left his quarters and made their way to the meeting with Caldwell, leaving the television on and the wine untouched.
