HAVE SOME PUNCH
The door creaked open. Shuffling feet were heard. Minerva McGonagall looked up and sighed.
"What did you do now, Mr. Potter?"
"I punched someone."
"Goodness me, you punched someone? Who?"
"Roscoe Travis."
"What in the name of Merlin did you punch him for?"
"'Cos I had to."
"And what would be your ostentatious excuse for punching him?"
"He made me mad."
"That's no excuse for punching a fellow student, and a fellow Gryffindor at that. You'll be getting a detention for this."
"I know."
"And you punched him because you were mad?"
"Yes."
"Well, how did he make you mad?"
"He made me jealous."
"Jealous? Jealous of what?"
"Travis."
"I know who, I want to know why."
"He hit on my girl."
"He hit a girl? Who did he hit? I'll certainly be having a word with him about this."
"He didn't hit anyone."
"But you just said—?"
"He hit on my girl."
"I don't understand."
"He flirted with my girl."
"Your girl?"
"Yes."
"I don't understand."
"I like her."
"Who is she?"
He hesitated.
"You can tell me."
"Lily Evans."
"I see."
"He says he likes her."
"But he doesn't?"
"He might."
"Then what's the problem?"
"She's my girl."
"Lily Evans is no person's possession, Mr. Potter."
"She likes me."
"Are you going out?"
"No."
"Then how do you know she likes you?"
"I can tell."
"How can you tell?"
"She yells at me."
"And that means she likes you?"
"Yes."
"So let me straighten this out. Mr. Travis was flirting with Miss Evans, who likes you, so you punched him?"
"Yes."
"I see."
"I like her."
"So you've told me."
"I like her a lot."
"Understandable."
"I like her more than Roscoe Travis."
"How do you know?"
"I can tell."
"How can you tell?"
"He doesn't look at her like I do."
"So you punched him?"
"Yes."
"You punched him because he likes the same girl that you do?"
"Yes."
"That's not a plausible reason for punching him, Mr. Potter."
"I like her more than he does."
"But how do you know?"
"I think I love her."
McGonagall raised her eyebrows.
"I do love her."
"I'll see you in detention, Mr. Potter."
"Have a good day, Professor. I'll see you there."
