Fall decorated the land, the trees shades of golden yellows, warm oranges and subtle browns. The chill in the air warned of the coming winter and animals all around were gathering what they needed to last through the season. In an open glade, a group of deer watched over by the buck grazed silently. In the brush, a pair of eyes watched the group before the powerful body began to move. Sinewy muscle under black fur guided the form on silent paws as the animal crept closer to the deer, stopping as the buck made to look up. Body pressed low to the grassy knoll kept his scent from floating, glad he was on the downwind but the buck was alert and started to rouse the others to move and the moment they did had the form move like a bolt.

The chase was on.

The form moved with a strong gait, closing in on the retreating deer and once it was close to a reasonably sized doe, massive jaws snapped at her hind legs, sending her free from the rest. A grin pulled across the beast's muzzle as it followed her, leading her into the forest. Snapping jaws pressed the poor doe on, the flighty creature not knowing what she was about to run into until another wolf, this one with a rosy colored coat leapt from the right, teeth biting into her neck and sent her stumbling over his legs, a hind leg grasped in the other. Between the two large beasts, the doe was quickly silenced, the smaller wolf panting before turning to the black wolf. /"H-how did I do?"/ The black wolf stood over their kill, smiling softly. /"A passing grade, Leon. You have gotten better at tracking and hunting. You'll be fine on your own."/ The other spoke with a gentle baritone, bones shifting as it rose onto two legs while still keeping its wolf-like traits.

Reaching down, he grasped the doe and slung her over his shoulder. /"Let's return while the meat is still fresh. Aqua will carve her down and set her pelt out to be tanned for the winter. I need to check on Yugi."/ The rosy wolf nodded and followed after the other werewolf. The group after leaving their home on the outskirts of Domino had headed north as suggested and spent the summer in preparing a new home once a place was found. One would never believe werewolves to know any sort of handyman work but Yami and Aqua proved those naysayers wrong as they made a modest two floor home reminiscent of the one that was left behind. It was a group effort with tools gathered from a town further from their grounds and the two elder wolves working on the home.

As they did so, Yami took Leon to practice tracking and hunting, starting small with rabbits and squirrels with the promise of moving to bigger prey once Leon was ready. That time had been now, the smaller pup grown into a mature body that was strengthened with the strenuous runs and hunts he went on with the older wolves. Their pack was small but their roles were set and Leon was all too eager to see their dominate "female". Cresting over a hill, the sight of the home brought a delight to the young wolf before he ran down the hill happily, calling out for the one he wished to see. /"Yugi! Yugi!"/ he barked happily and a head looked up from the garden, basket in hand with harvested vegetables. "You're back! How'd it go, Leon?" he asked as he went over to the fence, stroking the wolf's head as he perched his paws on the fence.

/"Very well! We caught a nice doe!"/ Yugi smiled, looking to his mate as he came down with the doe in hand. Yami returned the smile as he joined the small wolf at the fence, leaning down to rub noses with his mate. Yugi smiled and pressed a quick kiss to his nose before telling the two to head inside and ready the doe for storage while he finished in the garden. Both nodded before heading inside, Yugi watching them with another smile before heading back to collect more of the carrots. It was all too surreal to think of his life as it were now. Once a weak little human who came upon a wolf in the forest now living with that very same wolf in a pack. The wheels of fate had guided him to a life he certainly wasn't expecting but wouldn't dare change it for the world. The only thing that he missed was his grandfather but retribution for his soul was made as the cruel wolf that caused it is now a mounted trophy back in his old home.

Finishing collecting what he needed, he stood and dusted his cloth pants free of dirt before heading into the house and into the kitchen, smiling to his mother as she sat at the table, Aqua in the back room working on the doe. She looked to him and smiled in returned before asking him that she needed some herbs delivered into town. "Oh of course! I'll get Yami to take me over there now!" Yugi replied as he went to call for his mate once handed the small wicker basket holding the herbs and the address of the home he was to deliver them to. Yami came in when called and once told where they had to go, he gave a nod. /"Get your cloak and we'll go."/

Yugi did as told, picking up the familiar red cloak given to him long ago and settled it over his shoulders, bringing the hood up over tri-colored tresses. Ready to go, the two left, Yami's form shifting back to a regular wolf form and felt a stroke on his back. He chuffed pleasantly before turning to see his mate change, his beautiful creamy fur catching the sunlight as paws stretched out over the ground. /"Ready, my dear?"/ Yami asked and Yugi nodded, picking up the basket in his jaws and with a coy look to his mate, he ran along and was followed eagerly by the black wolf. It had been too long since they had run together and Yami was going to enjoy every moment of it, watching the fluttering red cloak.

A charming addition that was absolutely perfect to his sweet mate. Without it, he would have never caught his gaze. How ironic, Yami thought as he paced himself beside Yugi as they ran over the rolling fields of green, breaking through the trees of the forest that was their home and towards the town in the distance. How ironic was their story that started the same as a children's fairy tale he remembered. But unlike the story that taught a lesson, they gained something better than a lesson. They gained love, a family, a pack of their own. Yami and Aqua as their dominate males and Yugi their dominate "female". They commanded their pack with a gentle rule and taught their youngest member with care. Yugi grew into his position well and Yami couldn't be happier of how he adapted to his new life.

Truly, he and Aqua would've been lost without this sweet male at their side and for all that had happened in the past with Siegfried, they were glad to have gained what they never thought to have. Cerise eyes glanced to the wolf beside him and the gaze was returned, full of love for the one that ran beside him. Two wolves of dark and light continued toward the village, content with life and know well that the future is endless.

/"Yami...do you think someday we'll have a litter of our own?"/

/"I don't see why not. Werewolves are capable of many things. We've yet to explore many options but we have until our dying breath to learn them."/

Yes, Yugi thought as he changed back seamlessly into his human form before reaching the town entrance, Yami joining him just as easily. They had all the time in the world to learn and adapt. Children was sure to be on the horizon with enough time. A hand took his and Yugi looked to Yami and beamed lovingly before the two headed off into the town. Whatever awaited them in the future, Yugi was ready for it.
