It Is War

The Arankaru have come, and it is war.

There is fear and fighting and foes around her and she can do is sit in the medical area and make sure that those who won't survive an hour (so many, because we are too weak they are too strong) are comfortable. Less and less come in they are all fighting dead and there is no sparing for the wounded, no saving for those dead.

They are fighting a war out there and all she can do is treat those who come because three captains are here already and she is needed here more than there and with them more than with him and she thinks knows that everyone around her is dying, can only wish hope that she can at least stem the flow.

She knows snippets of what's going on outside- Ichimaru and Hitsugaya are fighting, Komamura and Tousen are screaming at each other, Abarai-kun and Kuchiki-taichou are fighting four monsters, that Kurosaki boy is fighting Aizen, and Zaraki Kenpachi is slicing through the ranks like grim death.

She wants them all so badly to be safe, wants them not to suffer and scream beneath her healer's hands, want it all to be over because then no one else will die.

She is being selfish, but she wishes he was with her. There was no time for long goodbyes, no confessions were in either of their natures but a tiny soft snarl of a promise, an answering squeeze of his arm that was all she could bring herself to reply.

As long as he is alive no Arankaru gets past, as long as she is working, healed shinigami stagger back in droves.

It is war, and she can do is send them back to the field alive, and all she knows is that they have not reached here yet he is alive.

Another shinigami is wheeled in, she abandons her thoughts and orders someone forward.

It is war, and she is doing all she can.
