Disclaimer- Butch Hartman, not me. Yadda yadda. This is a Spenserian sonnet-- you all know how much I love sonnets, if you've been here any length of time. Spenserian sonnets have three stanzas of "kissing rhyme," the abba scheme, a shift after the second stanza and a heroic couplet at the end. Sonnets are often considered formal, even a bit snobby in some circles, just in case you couldn't guess the character from the title. grins
Sister's Sonnet
Books I have and books I've read,
Always tried to understand,
Knowledge beckoned with a hand
And I have followed where it led.
I studied workings of the mind
And spurned the mysteries of the heart
Now knowing truth, I stand apart
And wonder how I was so blind.
I guarded him since he was small
And now he stands, a hero bold,
a figure from the tales of old--
But I know well that heroes fall.
Heart in throat and stomach hollow,
I watch him walk where I can't follow.
