I wrote this fic a couple of months ago, and just recently decided to dust it off and FINISH it once and for all, before school sucked up all my time. I have one or two other one shots halfway finished, but don't expect them anytime soon.
DISCLAIMER: This scene was shamelessly stolen from the movie Hellboy. Good movie, (could have been better, the second half was definitely lacking) but this scene just SCREAMED 'Raphael'. So I tweaked it a tad, and here you are.
It's a one-shot, and I intend to KEEP it a one shot, even though the plot bunnies are popping up like… rabbits. I may use something like this in another fic as well… In the movie, it's just such a wonderfully angsty scene. Whether I've completely ruined it or not still remains to be seen.
…
Please don't sue. I'm poor and need to save up for college.
Enjoy!
Raphael knocked gently on Carrie's window. Midnight had come and gone an hour or two ago, but he knew that he wouldn't be able to sleep, rest, eat, do anything until he talked to her.
He knocked on the glass again.
Suddenly Carrie appeared, running a hand through sleep-tousled hair and yawning.
"Raph?" She asked sleepily through the window.
"Let me in, we need t' talk about somethin'."
She tugged the window open and he slid through the opening, coming to rest in the middle of her bedroom.
"Raph, it's two in the morning, what the heck is so important that you had to come and talk to me n-n-oow?" She tried to glare at him, but the effect was ruined as she yawned, mid-word.
He looked at the ground and tightened his grip on his belt.. "I saw y' with Jenkins t'night."
She sat down, hard, on her bed.
"Raph, I-"
"Just… just listen to me for a minute, okay?" He took a deep breath and raised his eyes to hers.
"I know there's things about me that you aren't particularly fond of."
Carrie's eyes closed as if in pain. "Oh, Raph, not here… not now…"
His eyes flashed dangerously. "Yes here, yes now!" He said fiercely. "Look, I know that there's things 'bout me that 'chu don't like much. That Jenkins guy- he's normal, he can give you the life that I know you've always wanted."
She opened her mouth to protest. He silenced her with a look. "No. Don't deny it, we both know that you'd be lyin'."
He walked over to her, stopping mere inches from where she was sitting. "Believe me… If I could change this…" He waved his hand up and down in front of his face. "But I can't. This is the Raphael package." He took a deep breath and stepped back from Carrie before he continued.
"I can't promise you a white picket fence and 2.5 kids and a dog. I can't promise you that I'm going to be alive tomorrow night. Or tomorrow. It's a part o' my life that I'm never going to be able to change. But what I can promise you-" He paused. "I can promise you two things. One- That I'll never stop looking this good."
Carrie smiled weakly and looked down, trying and failing to hide her quiet laughter. "Oh, Raph…"
"Shh, I'm not finished yet." He put a finger under her chin, tilting her head up so he could look her in the eye. "Two- I will never, ever stop believing in you."
Carrie looked at him with tears in her eyes and a small, sad smile on her face. "I think I like that."
Raph smiled. "Good." He stroked her hair and bumped his nose against hers affectionately. "I gotta go- Leo 'll have kittens if I miss another mornin' practice this week."
She caught his arm as he started to stand up and stroked his cheek lovingly with a lily-soft hand. "See you tonight?" She asked plaintively.
He gently pulled away and stood up with all the grace that his ninjitsu training had instilled in him and winked rakishly at her.
"Always."
And then he was gone, vanished into the early New York night.
