It had all started out as a prank.

Fred and George knew that Hermione was feeling like quite the third wheel now that Harry and ickle Ronniekins had somehow managed to find themselves girlfriends, so they thought one of them could ask her out on a date to cheer her up. It was just depressing watching her mope around the Burrow when she came to visit for the last month of the summer holiday.

Fred had been pleasantly surprised when she accepted his invitation to go to a small wizard's cafe with him. He had figured she would give him the cold shoulder and that would be that, but she had agreed without a moment's hesitation. He was even more surprised when she asked if they could do it again sometime.

Fred and George, pranksters that they were, couldn't let such a golden opportunity pass them by, however ill-conceived it was. They thought it would be brilliant to see if miss Know-it-all Granger was as smart as everyone seemed to think, so on the second date, George was actually the one who took Hermione out…while posing as Fred.

This went on for several weeks, until both the boys had unwittingly become quite smitten with Hermione. However, this posed quite a difficulty since neither one of them wanted to give her up, and she was quite oblivious to their little ruse. Or so it seemed. They really should have known better.

Hermione, for her part, had realized what they were up to right from the second date…even identical twins have some slight physical differences…but she had rather enjoyed being courted by two men. But seeing as the summer was drawing to a close, she figured she should probably reveal her plans to them before she had to go back to Hogwarts. Which was what brought them to their current predicament.

"You can't be serious," George said, his mouth agape.

"What would people think?" Fred exclaimed.

"You two have been sharing me all summer long," Hermione said in a matter-of-fact tone. "I don't see how continuing on will change anything. I like you both, and it's quite obvious you both fancy me. So why can't we all just be together? It seems rather simple to me."

Fred and George just stared at her. They couldn't believe this no-nonsense girl had just suggested that they be all be a couple (no…a threesome) as if it were the most logical thing in the world. But then she took them both by the hand and gave each of them a tender kiss…something she had been quite unwilling to do during their odd courtship…and neither of them felt much like arguing anymore.

They both looked at each other and shrugged. "Why not," they said in unison with wicked grins on their faces.

Hermione gave them a large smile, and pulled them both into a fierce hug. She was rather excited about all this. It was about time she got to do something unconventional that didn't involve risking her life.

And she had quite missed being part of a trio.
