Title: Hogwarts?
Chapter: 13- A visit to Hogsmeade
The next morning after breakfast all the students who were going to the village were filing out of the entrance hall and into the courtyard. Buffy was excited to see Hogsmeade.
Draco could see her enthusiasm, smiled at her, and shook his head. His smile vanished, however, when he noticed Harry walking by.
"Hey, Buffy. Don't forget to meet Ron, Hermione, and me at the Three Broomsticks at 3:00." said Harry as he passed Buffy and Draco and walked over to his friends.
"What are you doing with Potter and his friends?" Draco asked her.
"Oh, they just want to meet my friends from Sunnydale and hang out. So, what are we doing first?" Buffy said as she looked at him.
"Well, first we are going to see my parents and then I will show you around the village." Draco said. He offered his hand and she smiled as she took it. They made their way through the crowd and into Hogsmeade.
Buffy looked around in awe as they entered the village, "Drake, this place is amazing!" she said.
Draco rolled his eyes at the nickname Buffy insisted on calling him and said, "Come on, Summers." He led her into Madame Puddifoot's and over to a secluded corner of the quaint little tea shop.
Buffy saw Hogwarts students coupled up and sitting close together as they conversed quietly at their dimly lit tables as she and Draco passed them and stopped at a table where an older couple were sitting.
The man was very handsome with long blonde hair and he resembled Draco. The woman next to him wearing an emerald velvet dress also had long blonde hair and she had Draco's eyes. Buffy came to the conclusion that these were Draco's parents.
"Ah, there you are Draco." The woman said as she and her husband stood up to greet them.
"Mother, father, this is Buffy Summers. She is Hogwarts' newest student. Buffy, these are my parents, Narcissa and Lucius Malfoy." Draco said making introductions.
"It's nice to meet you." Buffy said holding her hand out to Narcissa who shook it delicately and then to Lucius who in turn kissed the back of her hand.
"The pleasure is ours, my dear." Lucius replied and released her hand. Buffy blushed a slight red.
Draco pulled out Buffy's chair for her and then they took their seats.
"So, how is school going, sweetheart? Are you very busy this year?" Narcissa asked her son.
"School is fine. I am moderately busy helping Buffy catch up on her school work." Draco said and reached for the tea pot in front of him to pour some tea into the tea cup sitting in front of Buffy and then into his own tea cup. Buffy smiled her thanks at him.
"How is that going for you, Buffy?" Lucius asked her drawing her attention from Draco.
"It was really difficult at first but Draco has really been a big help. The studying part is easy enough but it's performing the spells and memorizing the incantations that I'm struggling with. I don't know if I'll ever get it right. Everything I aim at kind of has a tendency to blow up."
"Well then maybe you should aim your wand at Potter next time you see him." Draco muttered.
Buffy elbowed him in the ribs and said "be nice!"
"Ow! Why do you always have to do that?" he asked her and rubbed his side.
"Why can't you learn to be nice?" she countered.
Lucius chucked and said, "my dear, for Draco that was nice. I am almost surprised he didn't say something worse about Mr. Potter. Though his restraint must be due to being in the company of a lovely, young lady such as yourself."
Buffy blushed once more and looked at Draco who was still rubbing his side.
"It's because I know what I'm going to get if I do say something worse." Draco said. "Do you have to hit so hard?"
"Oh, Draco stop complaining. She barely touched you." Narcissa said and then she turned to face Buffy. "so, what are your favorite subjects so far, darling?"
"I would say that Care of Magical Creatures is my favorite so far. It would have been Potions except for the super long essays Professor Snape like to give. Charms and Transfiguration are just hard and Defense Against the Dark Arts is really boring but easy because Professor Umbridge won't let us use magic in class. History of Magic is somewhat interesting and Divination is… weird."
Draco nearly snorted his tea out of his nose at her Divination comment. "That old bat Trelawney went right up to Buffy and told her that 'death surrounds' her and that she was going to die. She does that every year." he said
Buffy thought about what Professor Trelawney had said. "Well, she wasn't wrong." Realizing that she had said that out loud she quickly thought of a cover. "I mean; she knew that I wanted to know about my parents."
Buffy looked at Draco's parents and explained. "I was adopted when I was about two years old. Professor Dumbledore told me that my mother died shortly after I was born and that my father loved me very much but he wouldn't tell me what happened afterward or if I had any brothers or sisters. He didn't even tell me if my father is still alive. He probably isn't if he hasn't come to get me by now… unless he didn't want me… but Professor Dumbledore said that my father loved me so maybe he just doesn't know that I'm back. But why wouldn't Professor Dumbledore tell him… unless he is dead…" she trailed off with a thoughtful look on her face. Her ramble was finished.
Draco saw the lost look in her eyes and felt bad for her. Lucius was contemplative.
"Buffy," Lucius said, "I know some wizards that are very high up and powerful who can look into this for you."
Buffy's eyes lit up. "Really? Oh, Mr. Malfoy, thank you so much!" she said.
"It's no trouble at all. We should find out everything you need to know by Christmas." Lucius said. He then looked at Draco and said, "you should show Buffy the village while you still can."
"Thank you again Mr. Malfoy." Buffy said as Lucius and Draco stood, Draco pulling Buffy's chair out and helping her up.
"It is my pleasure, my dear." Lucius said and they all said their goodbyes before he sat back down next to his wife.
Draco took Buffy's hand once more and led out of the tea shop towards the center of town. As they walked by Gladrags Wizard Wear, Buffy stopped dead and said that she wanted to go in. Draco shook his head and said, "Buffy, that's just old clothes. They have nothing current in fashion."
Buffy stared at him in shock. "…Drake, they're vintage and clothes are clothes. It doesn't matter if they're old." She said to him like it was the most obvious thing in the world, which to her it was.
Draco Sighed and gave in. "Alright, but five minutes only!" he said knowing well enough that it would be close to an hour.
Buffy nodded her head in agreement. "okay, five minutes."
Sure enough, Draco was right. Exactly fifty-eight minutes and thirty-five seconds after entering the shop they finally made it out with a large bag filled with clothes. Next, they strolled over to Honeydukes Sweetshop where they bought some chocolate frogs, Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans, Sugar quills, and Buffy bought a blood flavored lollipop for Angel.
After leaving Honeydukes and strolling a little farther away from the village, Buffy noticed a lone house sitting atop a hill. It appeared to be run down.
"Drake, what is that?" she asked pointing to the house.
"That is the Shrieking Shack. It is the most haunted house in Britain." He replied.
Buffy's interest peaked, "Haunted?" she asked and looked to him for confirmation. At his nod she smiled. "cool, let's go." She said and grabbed his hand. She started walking toward the house but found it slightly difficult because Draco was putting up a fight.
"Are you mad? It isn't like the ghosts in Hogwarts. This place is evil!" he said digging his heels into the ground making Buffy come to a stop.
"Oh, come on Drake, you're not scared are you?" she teased him.
"Scared? No!" he said defending himself. "That place looks like it could collapse at any moment! I don't want to be responsible for you getting hurt."
Buffy shrugged her shoulders. "Fine, you can wait out here then." she said and thrust her shopping bags into Draco's arms. With a smile she turned and walked toward the house.
Draco, not wanting to be left behind followed, catching up to her. Buffy noticed out of the corner of her eye and looked at him with raised eyebrows.
"I'm only going and putting my life in danger so I can protect you." he said and shifted Buffy's shopping bags from both arms to one hand.
Buffy rolled her eyes, smiled, and took his free hand. They entered the damaged and dusty house and looked around.
There was dust everywhere and what remained of phots, walls, and furniture were scratched and torn to shreds. It looked like animals had been in here. Angry animals.
"Fix it up a little-" she said just as she laid her hand on the stair banister and it snapped, pieces falling down.
Draco scoffed earning himself a glare.
"…Okay, fix it up a lot, and this could be a very nice place." She said and headed up the stairs, down the hall and into a room.
Draco followed. In the center of the room was a partially intact bed covered in cobwebs, dust, and debris. The walls were gouged and scorched.
"This must be where our third year Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor must have stayed during the full moon when he was a student." Draco said mildly disgusted.
Buffy mistook his disgust for the room and not the person. "Full moon? Is he a werewolf?" she asked and looked around the room.
"Yes." Draco said with a slight shudder. Buffy could see that Draco wasn't too fond of this subject and let it drop. She would ask Harry about this Werewolf Professor later. Then she remembered what Harry had said about the House elf named Dobby.
She moved some of the debris onto the floor and sat down on the bed. "Hey Drake, what is the deal with this elf named Dobby? I heard only a little about it from Harry." She said.
Draco frowned and said with something akin to malice, "Saint Potter tricked my father into setting the family servant free."
"The way Harry made it sound was that Dobby didn't have a very good life with your family." Buffy said.
Draco, confused, looked at her and said, "Why is that of any importance? It exists to serve."
Buffy had a slight frown at his response and said, "Harry told me your family treated Dobby horribly."
"It is nothing more than a servant, Buffy!" Draco said, becoming frustrated.
Buffy stood up from the bed, getting angry, and took a few steps till she was inches away from Draco. She put her hands on her hips and said "With a name, gender and feelings!"
Draco saw this escalating and wanted to stop it. He sighed, set the shopping bags down, took Buffy's hands in his and said, "Buffy, let's not argue about this. We came here to enjoy ourselves… Well not here as in this house because this place is a ruddy disaster."
Buffy couldn't help but let out a little laugh at that and felt her anger slipping away. She relaxed, looked into his silvery eyes and let Draco pull her closer a little closer to him, her hands still in his. When her body was about an in from his she lay her head on his shoulder and brought her hands up to his shoulder blades.
Draco wrapped his arms around her, pulled her closer till she was flush against him and her golden locks were caressing his chin and neck. He couldn't help himself. He inhaled her scent and vanilla, brown sugar, and lavender with a hint of citrus wafted into his nose and filled his head.
Buffy pulled back a little and looked at him curiously before asking him, "Did you just sniff me?"
Draco smiled, shook his head and let out a little laugh. "No, I didn't sniff you. Your hair was in my face and I need to breathe to stay alive. You just happen to smell good so I might have breathed a little longer than necessary." He said.
Buffy smiled knowingly, gave him a peck on the cheek and said "thank you." Suddenly a frown marred her beautiful face. "you know, you still haven't told me who Lord Moldy Wart is." She said.
Draco sighed again and led her back over to the bed. They sat down. He looked anywhere but at her. He couldn't tell her now. The Dark Lord wanted to meet her. Draco didn't want to tell her and have her refuse to speak to him again because of his family's involvement. But he didn't want her to hear Potter's version because then she would really never speak to him again.
"Lord Voldemort is a powerful wizard. …I shouldn't be the one to tell you this, Buffy. I'm sorry." He said and sighed once more. He just knew she would hear it from Potter now. He hung his head.
Buffy's eyes softened and she scooted closer to him. She could tell that this was a touchy subject. "Drake, what's wrong?" she asked him softly and touched his hand.
Draco finally looked at her. He looked at her blond hair, sparkly green eyes, and gorgeous face and made his decision.
"It's just that there are mixed views about him. Some people, like Potter, think he is the devil incarnate while others think that he is a leader or a hero, someone to be feared but admired." he said.
"Which one do you think he is?" Buffy asked.
Draco grew uncomfortable. He withdrew his hand from hers, stood up from the bed and started pacing about the room. He stopped to look at her again. He was going to lose her; he just knew it.
"Honestly?"
At her nod he looked away from her and continued.
"I think he is a bit of both."
Buffy saw that this was really hard for him and walked over to him. Taking his hand again she reached her other hand up to his face and looked into his stormy eyes.
"Drake, it's okay. You don't have to talk about." she said but Draco was still uneasy.
"Come on, let's get out of here." Buffy said and grabbed the forgotten shopping bags before leading him into the hall, down the stairs that no longer had a banister, and out of the house.
As they made their way toward the village Buffy suddenly stopped and smiled. She turned to Draco and said, "Have you ever taken Muggle Studies?"
Draco frowned at that ridiculous notion. "No, why?" he asked.
Buffy smiled even brighter. "It's just that Harry, Hermione, and I were talking about muggle things and poor Ron had no clue what we were talking about." She said. Going off of his blank look she continued, "You showed me your world, now it's time to show you mine."
Buffy reached into her robes and pulled out her cell phone. She had been disappointed to learn that electronics didn't work on the school grounds. But now they were in the village so she checked for a signal. She was pleased to find out she had one.
"what is that? And why does it have numbers on it?" Draco asked her curiously.
Buffy smiled again and said, "This is a cell phone. Giles got it for me before I came here. It doesn't work in the castle though."
"What does it do?"
"People use cell phones to talk to other people." She said. Off of Draco's confuse stare she added, "People who are not within yelling distance of each other. Like, say we are here and you want to talk to your parents who are at home. If they had a cell phone you would just need to dial the number and wait for them to pick up and then you can talk to them."
Draco gave her a disbelieving look.
Buffy sighed and said, "I'll show you." She dialed Giles' number and when he answered she said hello and asked to speak to Willow.
"Hey Will, I am showing Draco what a cell phone is and how to use it… yeah… hold on Will, I'm going to put you on speaker." Buffy said.
Draco watched as Buffy pushed a button and started talking to Willow again. He was shocked to hear a voice coming from the device.
"So what time are you meeting us and where?" Willow asked.
Buffy looked at the time on her phone and said, "It's 1:00 pm now so we'll meet you guys at the Three Broomsticks in an hour."
"Okay, see you then Buffy!"
"Bye, Will!" Buffy said and pushed another button then put the phone away. She turned to Draco and said, "The only downside to cell phones is that the phone company likes to overcharge you when you roam. So, what do you think?"
