Author's Note: This is pure, unadulterated fluff to tide you over until I get around to writing the next chapter of The Decoration of the Tree. I very unfortunately killed my back the other day, which has rather put me out of the fluffy mood, which the aforementioned chapter is scheduled to be full of. But I already had this thing sitting around collecting dust, so...
It's Such A Happy Day
Bill walked into his and Fleur's apartment to find his wife sprawled out on the couch, surrounded by baby-name books. Hundreds and hundreds of them, in fact.
"What on earth?" Bill raised an eyebrow, dropping his briefcase and losing the Ministry robes.
"I am making a list of possible names for our babies," Fleur replied absently, perusing a book with flashing pictures of babies.
"Am I allowed to have any say in this?"
Fleur lifted an eyebrow. "A small say, I suppose."
"What?" Bill laughed.
Fleur sighed dramatically. "All right, I suppose you can help me narrow down what I already 'ave." She handed over a rather large stack of papers, all with a line drawn down the middle, with the headings BOY and GIRL.
"Hey, you wrote in English! I'm impressed." Then he frowned and flipped through a few pages. "These are almost all French names!"
Fleur blushed prettily. "Well, zey are going to be... eh... what ees ze word... bilingual, and I expect we shall spend much time in France, so they need good French names."
Bill just looked at her.
"Okay, okay! What English names do you like?" Fleur scooted over with some effort, seeing as her stomach was absolutely enormous with their twins. She patted the seat next to her.
Bill sat down, and brought Fleur to his chest, cradling her. He kissed her forehead, and said, "All right, let's look through these names."
"I really like ze name 'Mathieu'," Fleur said dreamily.
"Bless you," Bill replied with a smirk. Fleur smacked his arm. "Sorry, okay. Well, Matthew wouldn't be too bad. Shorten it to Matt."
"Mathieu," Fleur corrected.
"You know what name I really like?" Bill said seriously. "Ethel."
Fleur sat up, and looked at him, wide-eyed. "You... you are not serious, yes?"
"No, I'm just joking. I really like Agnes."
"Ha ha, oh, you are so vair, vair funny. My leetle comedian, Bill," Fleur replied, flopping back down on Bill's lap.
"Amélie?" Bill asked, flipping through the list again. "I mean, that was a good Muggle movie, sure..."
"Eet ees ze-It is the name of my favorite aunt in France," Fleur replied. "And I like ze name."
"Maybe. I'm not too keen on naming my daughter after a movie."
This kind of thing went on for quite awhile, each poking light fun at the other's name choices. Mathieu was the only name they could agree on, and that was because it was French, but could be shortened to a "normal" name.
"So... our boy will be Mathieu," Fleur said, writing this down. "And ze girl..."
"Angela."
"Marie."
"Emma?"
"Gina."
"Gina? No way. Lucy."
"Dominique."
"What about Angela Marie? Marie could be her middle name," Bill suggested.
Fleur cocked her head to the side. "Well... Angela could be made French."
"As well as English," Bill said brightly.
"I'll write it down," Fleur said, doing so. "And if either of us finds a different name zat we like, well..."
"We'll pretend we never heard it, because we already made a decision," Bill grinned.
Fleur laughed and pulled his head down. "I love you."
"Ah, oui, madame," Bill said, waggling his eyebrows. "I love you too."
Fleur winced. "You are terrible."
"Me or my accent?"
"Both," Fleur shot back, laughing. Bill grinned and opened his mouth to say more, but Fleur pressed her lips to his, shutting him up effectively.
