Disclaimer goes here.Dreams"We'll build a beach!"It was exactly the kind of idea Rubedo would come up with. Improbable, impractical, impossible and completely, utterly brilliant. Guignan looked up from the pad he was reading (all curled up in an awkward mess- he wasn't quite used to his adolescent limbs yet and was somewhat bitter that Rubedo missed out on dealing with puberty) and glanced at his companion with an even, nuetral gaze. Rubedo had his feet propped up on the desk and was staring at the ceiling with that dangerous, dream soaked look Guignan had learnt well to dread. It meant that Rubedo was planning something illogical. Something like building a beach in the middle of space."It would certainly be... unique." he mused, laying his pad on his lap and leaning his elbows on the chair's arms, "It would garuntee that people would visit the Foundation if only to indulge in that particular tourist attraction."Rubedo whipped his head around and glared lightly at Guignan for a moment before snorting a disappointed: "Tch-" and kicking his legs off the desk, spinning himself around in the chair over and over again. After a few rotations he stopped and asked: "Is business the only thing you think about nowadays?""One of us has to think about it if we want to get anywheres.""Well, it's going to be a private beach." Guignan looked at him and Rubedo stared right back, "Come on, Nigredo, we have to treat ourselves once in a while! Now, I'm older than you so when I say we're going to build a private beach you're not going to argue, okay?"Guignan blinked, glanced down at his datapad, sighed, and met Rubedo's gaze once again. Did he really want to argue about this?"Okay." he replied slowly. Rubedo could have his private beach. He liked it when the redhead was himself- bustling, immature energy and passion barely contained by intellect. Rubedo had been so gloomy these days, Guignan supposed giving him a project like this would take his mind off the things that had been weighing on it for far too long.Rubedo began work on it almost immediately- calling around for shipments of the finest, whitest sand in the sector and the clearest salt water he could track down. And it had to be salt water- Rubedo would not settle for a "wimpy lake" no matter how easy it would be to make enough fresh water to fill the entire Foundation in less than a month. He eventually got the idea to make the center of the foundation into a huge, circular bay with the Durandal's docking port at the apex. "A giant, shimmering red tower rising up from the glistening ocean! It would be so awesome!" Helmer just raised one eyebrow and Guignan shrugged helplessly, prompting the military man to mutter something under his breath about the "earnest folly of youth".It took a year and three months to complete. When it was finally ready, Rubedo dragged Guignan (who now had nearly a good foot in height over the older URTV) down to the shores and they stood and watched the "sunset", their boots digging into the soft sand. Rubedo's long jacket blew behind him in the artificial breeze and he inhaled deeply, making a pleased sound as he exhaled."Smells just like the real thing!" he proclaimed proudly. However, his grin began to fade with the light. There was no sun dripping down the horizen in space, just the gradual onset of inky blackness. Rubedo's arms fell limply to his side and he sighed miserably."You know, Nigredo, they would have loved it."At first Guignan thought he was talking about Sakura until he noticed that Rubedo had unconciously begun raising his left hand to rest it across his chest.Rubedo was right. Albedo probably would have loved it.fin.
