Champagne and Super Novas
By Chaimera
"Where are we going?"
"You'll see."
"Tell me."
"Keep up that attitude and I'll put you back where I found you!"
"Hah. You wouldn't dare."
The Doctor grinned at her, spinning a wheel. The TARDIS shook, lurched and then stilled.
"Well?"
"You'll see. Wait here. I've gotta nip down to the kitchen."
Rose sighed as the Doctor disappeared around the corner. It was never easy to get a straight answer out of him at the best of times.
She wandered over to the door and tried to open it. It wouldn't budge. That usually meant that they were in space or some similarly hostile environment. She sidled over to the main console, watching the door for the Doctor. She leaned in towards the screen.
"Hey, come on. Tell me where we are."
The screen flickered but gave up no information.
"Please." She pleaded with the impossible machine.
"Don't tell her anything!" The shout came from the door and the Doctor grinned as
Rose looked up, shocked.
"Cheater. Come on."
He took her hand and led her down the winding corridors of the TARDIS.
"Where are we going?"
"You'll see. Yeesh. You human women, so bloody impatient."
"Oi, watch it."
They arrived at a door which the Doctor opened and ushered Rose inside. The room looked suspiciously like one of the private observation decks on Platform One.
"I'm not gonna get fried in this one am I?"
"Not unless you annoy me."
"That's a comfort." She commented sarcastically an earned herself a little push.
"So, what are we here for?"
"Do you ever stop asking questions?"
"No."
He smiled at her. "Good."
The window screen rose and they looked out onto a dark star.
"That star" said the Doctor, stepping closer to the window "is about to go super nova. It's a beautiful spectacle. Fantastic."
Rose smiled stepping up beside him. "What's in the bag then?"
The Doctor grinned and reached into the bag he had retrieved from the kitchen. He pulled out two glasses and a bottle of champagne.
"Ohh, what's all this for then? Your birthday?"
He shook his head. "Nope, One year ago, give or take, one Rose Tyler agreed to come with this old Time Lord across space and time."
She smiled at him again and took the offered glass of champagne.
"It's our one year anniversary."
"Yup."
"I really am so glad I met you. Even when you nearly get me killed."
"Yeah me too. Even when you nearly get yourself and me killed. Now, let's watch the fireworks, shall we?"
They both sat and watched as the star exploded. The white, blinding light filled the small room and when the glare faded the Doctor found himself with his companion on his lap, his lips on hers.
"Mmm, should have done this a year ago."
"Yeah." He wasn't really capable of articulating himself any more at that moment.
Rose pulled back and looked at him uncertainly.
"Really? What do you think?"
He smiled and pulled her back for another kiss.
"I think 's Fantastic!"
End.
