Wedding Night

Summary: Everyone deserves a wedding night.

In some ways, it was everything she dreamed. She wasn't the blushing virgin that she was supposed to be, but neither was he. They'd known each other—loved each other—for years, so they fit together in every way they were supposed to. It was almost like Aphrodite herself blessed the night, a culmination of love or whatever crap the priests always talked about during festivals. Aphrodite and Athena, goddesses of love and war. She had the love now. And she knew that the war would come tomorrow.

Her bedmate mumbled in his sleep, pulling her closer to his warm side. She gave in to him, letting him cuddle her close against his body. Starbuck didn't cuddle, but she was willing to let it go just this once. It wasn't every night that she had a wedding night. And it was the only one she would ever be allowed to have.

"Kara." Sleepy kisses covered her bare shoulder until her bedmate buried his face in her neck. She wondered if he'd remember in the morning, or if this was one more thing they'd forget, one more reason why they'd never drink together again.

She ran her fingers through his brown hair. It was short, the exact way that regs demanded. But her bedmate always lived life by the books, always obeyed every letter of the law. Which was why she was surprised her wedding night even happened. Unless there were times when even Lee Adama knew he had to break a rule.

It would be another two years before she saw her bedmate, and even then, the shadow of his dead brother would still hang between the two of them.
