Hair Today, Go Tomorrow

Knock knock was the sound Touya's fist was supposed to be making against Shindou's door, but he didn't think it would be very polite to intrude on the conversation he could hear Shindou conducting with his mother inside the house.

"There's nothing unprofessional about my hair! Go isn't about hair! And since when did you care anyway?"

"I try to care but you never let me!"

Touya was starting to seriously doubt whether he and Shindou would be playing go today.

"Have you seen Waya's hair? He puts like a whole thing of gel in it every day and it looks like an animal died in it but you never bug him about it!"

"Waya isn't my son!"

"And what about Yashiro's hair? It's white!

"At least Yashiro respects his parents!"

"You're just saying that 'cause he compliments your cooking!"

Touya turned around to leave.

"And look at Touya's stupid haircut!"

Touya turned around again.

"It makes him look like a freaking girl but you're always saying 'Touya's such a good boy! Look at how polite he is! Look how he makes his parents proud wah wah wah!'"

"That's because he does!"

"But he's got a stupid haircut!"

"There's nothing wrong with his hair! It's just...youngish."

"It's screaming 'jailbait!'"

Touya blinked. Jailbait?

"I bet it's why he wins his games against all the 10-dan geezers!"

"Hikaru, that's horrible!"

Jailbait?

"Aw, who cares about you, I'm getting out of here."

Touya felt a door whamming open into his face.

"T-touya!" Shindou managed to splutter, face flushed with equal parts mortification and anger. "You were eavesdropping?"

Touya felt a door slamming closed in his face.

"Jailbait?" he said.

When he got home, Touya looked up a certain word in the dictionary.

The next day, he got a haircut.

Author's note:

A gigantic thank you to kali for pointing out that Shindou's mom wouldn't be calling him "Shindou." Weehoo! That was a silly mistake but it's fixed now.
