Part 3 of the Elfwine Chronicles. The Elfwine Chronicles are a series of one-shots, of which there will definitely be three, but MIGHT be more if I come up with more ideas.

Fairy Tales

(June, 4 IV)

Dawn was just beginning to color the sky when Eomer, King of Rohan, felt something poking him in the face. Blearily he opened one eye, and gazed at his three-year-old son, Elfwine. Seeing his father's eye open, the boy burst into a grin and whispered loudly, "Papa, can you tell me a story?"

Every chance he got the previous day, Elfwine had pestered him with requests for a story, but it was one of those days that never seemed to end. He had so many meetings, with so many people, that they began to blur together. Supper had been hastily wolfed down while reading reports in his study, and he managed only to put in appearance long enough to kiss his son goodnight before returning to more work.

And now, at the break of dawn, he was faced yet again with the request for a story. Not even fully awake, he mumbled, "Go ask your mother, Elfwine."

The boy dutifully trotted around to the other side of the bed where Lothiriel had already awakened, and had been listening to the conversation between father and son. Now Elfwine stared intently at her and again whispered loudly his request, "Mama, can Papa tell me a story?"

A smirk broke out on her face as she heard her husband groan. "Yes," she sweetly told her son, making certain her husband could hear, "Papa can tell you a story."

With a giggle, Elfwine ran back to his father's side of the bed and solemnly told Eomer, "Papa, Mama says you can tell me a story!"

Eomer rolled over on his back and glared over at his wife, "How thoughtful of her!" Resignedly, Eomer shifted over to make room and lifted his son up on the bed, where he quickly scooted under the covers and snuggled up close to his father.

With a sigh, Eomer asked, "What story do you want to hear, Elfwine?"

"Tell me the one about how you saved Mama from fifty Orcs!"

Eomer blushed, wondering if Lothiriel was still listening.

She was. He felt her roll over and press against his back, her lips close to his right ear. "Yes, tell that story. I would be interested in hearing it too, since it is news to me!" Laughing, she kissed his neck as he began his tale.

THE END

End note: It is not essential that you read the Elfwine Chronicles in the order they were written, but there is an advantage to doing so. The more of them that I wrote, the more likely I was to make reference to one of the previous ones and something that happened there. If you want to read them in order, go to the top of this page and click on my name (Deandra). That will take you to my profile page. Scroll down and you will find all the stories I have written. The Elfwine Chronicles are in order from bottom to top since ffn shows them in the order they were posted. A few were posted out of number order (#15 came after #17, I think), but you can read them in posting order or number order since those few won't be affected in the story content.
