Final chapter! Thank you to those who have been waiting for updates. I have been very busy with life to continue this fix. On top of having a creative slump.
Channel Hopping Chapter 10: Strangers From Another World
Mustang's ears still rang with the woman's shrieks as he found himself lying on a cold linoleum floor. With a wince he cracked an eye open to find himself surrounded by men and women who were all aiming pistols at him. Neither of them looked all too please at his odd and sudden entrance. His eyes roved over the room taking in the the plain walls, the various desks, and other tell tale signs indicating he was in some sort of police station or military office.
"It's okay. He's with the kid." Came a female voice somewhere amongst the group of detectives and officers. The guns were put away and Mustang slowly sat up. The relief of ending up in a world that held a sense of familiarity made him happy. However, he sure damned hoped that this world did not consist of ghosts or magic cameras or-
"Well well well….Look who decided to drop by." The Colonel raised an eyebrow. That annoyed tone sounded very familiar. Turning his head in the direction of the voice he was greeted by a seething Edward. A large smile graced his lips at the sight of the blonde haired teen. Whatever he was going to say never escaped his throat because a second later his world exploded with a flash of light and pain.
On the floor again Mustang tasted blood in his mouth from his split lip and groaned. In his over joyed state he didn't even notice the teen had reeled back to slug him in the jaw. With his automail hand.
Three hours earlier
Ed growled angrily. They were still not back in Armetris. Whatever gods were up there seemed to enjoy his pain immensely. It felt like it was "lets mess with Edward." week. The very thought annoyed him even more.
"….Since we're back together .Shouldn't we try and look for Colonel Mustang?" Asked Al quietly, head cocking a little. His brother only growled.
"He can find his own way home!"
It was the Colonel's fault for making him start this annoying journey in the first place so it seemed only fair that he figure out his own way back. With another moody growl Ed began pacing the small cell he and Al were currently sharing. When entering this world they were met with guns in the faces, people demanding how they got into the New York or where ever the hell they were Police Department. With some cooperation on Al and Ed's side a few of the police officers led them to a holding cell for questioning. So now here they were stuck in a cell and worst of all alchemy didn't work here. Fan-fucking-tastic.
A few minutes later the two brothers sat inside a interrogation room with a woman who had introduced herself as Detective Kate Beckett and a man who sat to her left named Richard Castle. Who wasn't a police officer or a detective but was a famous mystery writer and a civilian consultant.
"So…..Edward and Alphonese…..There's something I want to know." Asked Kate in a cool tone, eyeing Edward's odd appearance and then to Al. "How exactly did you manage to get into a building full of officers especially with a….Robotic suit of armor?"
"Oh, I'm not a robot." Replied Al. He hesitated for a moment trying to figure out a way to explain to someone who had no clue about alchemy how his soul was abound to a suit of armor. Kate raised an eyebrow and Castle's eyes sparkled with curiosity.
"Listen…If you two are in some sort of trouble at home or running away from someone we can help you. Please just tell me the truth." Ed and Al exchanged looks, knowing that if Beckett was told the truth chances are she wouldn't even believe them. But perhaps the man, Castle would.
"It's a pretty long story." Started Ed, sitting up in his chair. Beckett leaned forward.
"I'm in no rush." With a smirk Ed began telling Beckett and Castle everything of their past, their current life and the events that got them in this mess in the first place. The entire explanation lasted an hour with either brothers adding in certain events here and there. By the end Beckett looked exactly as Ed had predicted: Still unconvinced. While Castle was the exact opposite.
"So…Let me get this straight." Replied Castle, rehashing the long story. "You and your younger brother are from a different world called "Armetris". The year is 1913, and in this country people can use alchemy and if you're in the military you're a state alchemist and each one is given a code name…..And the reason to your metal limbs is due to a accident of trying to resurrect your mother which is the reason your brother is now a suit of armor.. On top the that the reason you're here is because your superior made you use alchemy on a tv aka the black box?…."
Both brothers nodded.
"That pretty much sums it up…" Commented Ed.
'Well I'm sold." The brunet on Castle's right sighed in exasperation at the goofy grin on the writer's face.
"Castle….Can I have a word with you…Now." Castle mentally winced at her "you don't believe this utter bullshit do you?" type of tone.
"Uh sure. " He replied before standing up and giving the blonde teen and large suit of armor a light grin. Castle followed the woman outside of the interrogation room where she turned on her heel and gave him a slight glare.
"Tell me you aren't really buying into what they said." Castle shrugged.
"It's extremely creative and farfetched but considering they just suddenly appeared inside the precinct out of nowhere let alone how well Al moves and functions seems pretty convincing."
Beckett hated to admit it but part of her wanted to believe that the Elric brothers were telling the truth. If Al was indeed just being manipulated by someone outside of the building the mechanics on that suit of armor were astounding, even revolutionary. It was almost like there was nothing robotic about him at all. His movements as far as a suit of armor could go was extremely fluid and organic.
A thought came to Beckett and she opened the door to the interrogation room with Castle stepping in after her, slightly confused.
"Do you mind if I try something?" She asked Al, looking him up and down. Al seemed hesitant.
"Sure?" With a nod Beckett walked over the Al and gently removed the helmet and peered inside. The shock of finding nothing inside the armor nearly made her drop Al's head. Gripping the helmet in her hands she then began looking around Al's seated body for any wires or mechanical pieces. To her further shock and confusion she found none. There was nothing to indicate that Al was actually a robot or that he was being manipulated by some sort of device.
Beckett stared at the two brothers and Castle looked like he was vibrating from where he stood, grinning from ear to ear.
Needing some air, and some coffee Beckett took hold of Castle's arm and led him outside letting the door close after them. Still in shock she and Caslte exchanged looks.
"This is so cool!" Castle exclaimed loudly, practically bouncing on the balls of his feet. Beckett could only shake her head still trying to wrap her mind around everything.
Half an hour later the two returned to the interrogation room and sat down again infront of Al and Edward. Beckett now having a new perspective of the brothers began asking them questions on how they were planning to get home. Edward's answer was simple and decided for once to not even ask how him, his brother and superior traveling via tv to different worlds made any sense. Castle however wanted to know more about their world and Edward and Al were more than happy to share, even though both of them seemed to have a sad far away look in their demeanor. The writer instantly felt guilty for asking.
Ed was roughly half way talking about Armetris when a man, possibly a few years older than Mustang entered the interrogation room with a look of shock on his face. Esposito, what Ed caught was his name mentioned that a man in a blue military uniform had just suddenly appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the police office.
"Did this guy happen to be wearing white gloves?" Esposito nodded slowly, noting the dark smile form on Ed's mouth.
"Then that man is my superior. Colonel Roy Mustang." Esposito raised an eyebrow then looked at Beckett. The woman nodded and Esposito simply left the room. Mouthing the word 'okay' once the door had closed.
Present Time
Mustang pressed the ice pack to his swollen jaw, ignoring the glare Ed was giving him. Al always the one to keep the peace tried to reason with his stubborn older brother that at least now they were together again and could possibly go home now. Least before Edward decided punch his superior again. Grumbling curses and other things under his breath Ed gave Mustang one last glare before turning his attention to Castle and Beckett.
"Sorry for all the trouble." He said with a apologetic smile. Beckett offered her hand to Ed who took it and shook it, a wiry smile on her lips.
"No problem at all. Hope you three manage to get home."
"It was nice meeting you two." Replied Al. Castle grinned.
"Same here. Good luck to all of you."
With their good byes said the three crowded around the tv in one of the offices with the detective and writer looking on in anticipation. Despite alchemy not working Ed decided to do it anyway since it could never hurt to try.
"Ready Al?" Al nodded, hovering a armored hand holding onto his brother's coat while Mustang placed a hand on his arm.
"Ready Nii-san!"
Clapping his hands together Edward touched the tv and in a flash of light the three of them disappeared, leaving Castle and Beckett to stare at the empty space in absolute shock.
The two stayed like that for a minute until Ryan entered the room with news that the body of a man was found hanging from a school theater rafters. Beckett was the first to snap out of her shock and quickly left the room, asking Ryan for further details.
A wide grin slowly grew on Castle's face. Today was a very interesting day. And he couldn't wait to get home to show his mother and Alexis the photos and selfless he took of and with the interesting visitors from another world. He was certain that he would need photos because neither of them were going to believe he was telling the truth.
"SIR YOU'RE BACK!"
"Hey call off the search team! Tell them it was a false alarm!"
Roy, Ed and Al slowly opened their eyes to see Hawkeye, Hughes, Fury, Havoc staring at them, mouths slightly open. Around them various militants, frozen from their current task at the sudden appearance of the very people they were supposed to be looking for. Each of them blinked and Mustang reached out to touch Hughes's shoulder. His hand jerked back. The person in front of him who looked like Hughes was solid and warm. Roy once again reached out to poke his friend and realized Hughes was real. They managed to get back home.
Mustang let out a laugh of relief only for Ed to punch him in the stomach. As his superior doubled over in pain Ed grab the tv from the desk, unceremoniously drop it onto the floor, transmuted a sledge hammer from said floor and proceeded to smash the tv into pieces. Once he was done and satisfied with taking his stress out on the accursed object; Ed dropped the sledgehammer, fixed the floor and stalked out of the room with Al following quickly behind, apologizing for his brother's behavior.
THE END.
Yes. It's done. And it's taken me how many years to get my butt back into gear?! This chapter is certainly not worth the wait for all of you who have been wanting a update. But I hope it at least made you smile a bit. Thank you for reading my stupid fix and I'm sorry that it has taken this long.
