Warning: Kakashi x Iruka (shounen-ai)

Disclaimer: Naruto isn't mine

Started off as a fluffy KakaIru fic inspired by a Pepto-Bismol commercial, but ended as a dark, angstish story. Damn! Why can't I ever write fluff?!

Beginning to End

---

From head to toe, top to bottom, beginning to end, I loved every part of you.

The first time was when it started. All I could see was that head of smoky, silvery hair before I ran headfirst into you. A simple 'sorry,' and I went back on my way, chasing down the orange blur.

The second time, it was your single coffee colored eye, glaring back at me, and telling me that they were your soldiers, not my students.

And it was the next time was when I saw your blood red Sharingan, faintly glowing through the heavy rain, like a lighthouse calling a lone ship home. You stumbled with unsteady footing against the muddy ground, leaving behind a bloody trail as you slowly staggered your way back to our village's gates from a particularly tough mission.

The fourth time was that same day, when I saw that beautiful face, as I lay you on my bed, after you fainted in my arms. My eyes raked over your visage, marveling at its beauty. The scar, which you deemed oh-so-hideous over your left eye, only acted as a catalyst, enhancing your graceful features.

The fifth was four weeks later, when we had developed a small acquaintanceship, bed memories behind us. We went for a small trip to the onsen, and that is when I saw your back. It was riddled with scars, they were like fireworks on your skin, going every which way, and marring your soft, white skin.

The day of the sixth was my happiest. An accidental, yet truthful confession of my feelings for you and the returned words, "me too." Running hands scurried over pale skin like water flowing over a rock in the stream, memorizing every curve, bump, and crevice, willing it to stay with me forever. That night, I saw and embraced your body, and your heart.

The last time was when I saw the end. Your ashen white feet poked out from beneath the bleached pallid sheet, a taunt, almost. Your mismatched eyes that I had loved so much, stared back into lovingly so often were now gone; taken away to protect the secrets of our village. A large laceration was pockmarked deep within your perfect chest, staining the snow-white sheet. So deep that the heart you guarded so well was torn and rent, like the walls you broke down for me.

Engraved words on a small stone in a forest clearing is all that remains of your existence. I went there every day, standing, praying, crying, just thinking back to our rose-colored days.

I don't anymore.

From top to bottom, start to finish, everything has an ending.

"And they lived happily ever after.

The end."
