Violet Parr hated Christmas. No, she didn't hate it she loathed it with every fiber of her being. Everyone always dancing and singing, exchanging gifts and eating candy, but not her.
Violet looked glumly around the room as the teacher had begun to play Christmas carols. 'Perfect,' she thought, 'now everyone but me can get a gift. Peachy.' Sighing she leaned back in her chair absolutely prepared for whatever her 4th grade teacher was about to ask her.
"Violet, were are the gifts for your friends?" Mr. Moore asked.
"I don't have any friends." She turned off the part of her brain that thought before speech left you. She'd been through this and knew full well what to say when he asked it.
"Surely you do! A sweet girl such as you has to. You have to know someone." He looked so hopeful that Violet almost felt bad for him. 'This is like kicking a dog' She thought. Then she looked around the room. Sure, she knew people but she wasn't friends with anyone.
"Being friends with someone and knowing their names are two completely different things." Violet sighed. "Besides, I didn't bring anyone else a gift."
Mr. Moore gave her an odd look. "You don't have any gifts? Lets change that!" And with that Mr. Moore stood up and walked to his desk. Not wanting to miss this new part of the conversation she jumped out of her desk and followed. "Now lets seeā¦" He began, "I don't know what I have in here but we'll find something." He then sifted through his desk and pulled out a candy cane.
"Now why don't you give that to Tony? I think he likes you!" The way he smiled made that seem like a good thing. Sticking out her tongue at the idea of that she excepted the treat while Mr. Moore laughed. "Go on, he won't bite you, you know." Turning her around he gave her a little shove in Tony's direction.
'Oh boy.' She slowly approached Tony, acting as if he were some sort of dangerous animal. About four feet away she stopped and looked back at her teacher begging for any other punishment, but he smiled and flashed her two thumbs up. Turning around she took the final steps in tell she was right behind him.
Violet cleared her throat and Tony turned around. With out saying a word Violet held the candy cane out. Tony's confused face quickly changed as he took the candy. With a large smile he then said, "I've got a gift for you too!" Turning around her grabbed something and handed to her.
Violet took the teddy bear and blushed. With a quick thank you she practically ran to her desk. Looking at Mr. Moore she saw him smile and wink at her. She turned her gaze back to the teddy in her arms and smiled. Christmas wasn't all that bad.
And Tony wasn't too bad looking now either. With a small smile Violet hugged the bear. She loved Christmas.
