What we did

What we did

The clock strikes twelve
The caged bird sings
The blood keeps flowing
The air lifts our wings.

We fly through the night
Knowing what we did
Our heads hang in shame
Of the guilt we try to rid

Blood has been spilt
On that dreadful night
We will remember forever
The never-ending fight

In the heat of the chase
The pounding is heard
But once it stops sounding
No one says a word

We know what we did
We had no other choice
But in our soul will always
Be a screaming angry voice

Telling us we were wrong
Saying we should die
For the crimes we committed
For which we did not cry

We now have what we sought
The freedom we once lost
But at what price was it gained
If innocence was the cost

In this world there is justice
And those laws do dictate
An eye for an eye, a life for a life
And so, I accept my dire fate

With my hands that once killed
I take another life
This time it is my own
My
blood that stains the knife
