PRE FIC RANTINGS AND A SPRINKLE OF DISCLAIMER: This isn't exactly high quality fic since it was written for the '15minuteficlets' lj community, but I kind of like it. Inspired by Chouji's apparent weight loss in chapter 235 and written because, well, I like Team 10. I like Team 10 a lot.
WARNINGS: Spoliers, Speculation, crappy writing.
I really don't own Naruto, and neither do you. Lights
Cephied VariableIno elbowed him discreetly beneath the table and gave him a long meaningful glance. Shikimaru shrugged listlessly, slightly confused until he noticed his female teamate pointing across the table towards a downcast Chouji. The lights spun and flickered above them- there were fireworks, but no one really seemed to be paying attention. Tsunade had made sure that the spring festival had all the noise and bustle of a normal festival, but with war looming and whispers of the traitorous Sasuke Uchiha floating throughout Leaf village, no one felt much like celebrating."Why isn't he eating?" Ino whispered harshly, eyeing the extensive platter of festival delicacies piled just to the side of Chouji's table place.Shikimaru blinked and watched his best friend beneath the crackling night sky. Chouji's pale face flickered blue, then white, then blue again. His cheekbones were showing, and all his clothes hung loosely off his bony frame.Chouji was thin.Chouji wasn't simply thin, he was skeletal."He's been like this since you two came back. What the hell happened?""I can hear you talking about me, you know." the old Chouji would have said this with a sour glare, a fat lipped pout and a fist on the table. The new Chouji simply stared at Ino blankly. Shikimaru noticed his teamate shiver. Without saying another word, Chouji got up and left, leaving several undevoured plates of food in his wake.Ino looked jilted. Ino looked like she was about to cry, so Shikimaru decided that this was certainly not the best time to bring up the whole ordeal with Chouji's pills. It would be difficult to explain to Ino that Chouji should be dead.So instead, he sighed and leaned back to watch the bright colors paint the sky. Eventually, it all blended together in sharp flashes of black and white. All Shikimaru could see was bright dots of chakra slowing winking out one by one.fin.
