LAST TIME:
"What?! Since you refuse to leave the house and go out with us, I figure I find someone else to drag you out."
Kagome was speechless. Carefully, she took a deep breath before she asked, "And who might that be?" She was already regretting that she asked the question.
"Oh, just some guy that went by the name of TTC."
A stunned Kagome could only stare at Miroku with her jaw dropped.
…
CHAPTER SIX: Let's Meet
Saturday, 8:15am
Kagome paced around in her room. She didn't sleep well last night, actually, she hardly slept. She kept checking her phone for any cancellation text. She was hoping to explain the situation; that her soon to be ex-friend, had place them in or herself in, to be more exact. She still can't believe the nerve of Miroku. All that Kagome knew was, she was busy explaining to her friend Sango as to why she didn't keep in contact and Miroku excused himself, asking to use her phone to talk to a friend of his back in Europe. The next thing Kagome knew, she has a 'meeting' with the one guy that she hardly knows. She only started exchanging text for two weeks, going on three and god, she doesn't even know his name, more or less what he looked like. But Miroku assured her that there will be no mistake, since he sent him her photo, reminding her of his crime.
"You did, did you?" Kagome asked sweetly, too sweet.
Before Miroku could answer, she got hold of his throat and chocked the living hell out of him. Sango had to sustain the murderous girl before she carried out her intention. Even though Sango held Kagome back, she fought to free herself from her griped and for someone so small, she was very strong. It took forever before Kagome was able to calm down and it took another half hour for Miroku to get over the fact that his friend just tried to kill him. Never in his life had he ever seen Kagome acted so out of character. Yet, despite it all, he still smiled at his cleverness.
Kagome stopped pacing and stared at her phone, which she held tightly in hand. Just then, the familiar sound of incoming text got her attention. Indeed it was whom she was waiting for.
Instead of approaching the situation with grace and tranquility, she froze. She wasn't ready. The thought of why she was so frighten crossed her mind. She had no reason to be scared. After all, it wasn't like she was backing down from a...
Date.
"I'm being ridiculous. It's not like it's a date. I'll just tell him it was a mistake. No problem." Kagome tried to reassure herself, by repeating these lines over and over as she sat down and started typing a greeting to TTC.
TTC: Hello. Good morning. How are you?
Kagome: Good morning.
What? Kagome re-read the message and indeed it said 'How are you?'. It was a bit unusual. When did he ever care to ask about her well being?
Kagome: Umm...are you feeling okay?
TTC: Yep. Peachey. How are you?
Kagome: I'm fine, thank you.
This was getting too weird for Kagome. She just couldn't find any reason for this sudden change. Unless...
Kagome: So, what is your name?
TTC: Rin's name is Rin. What is yours?
The last message completely surprised Kagome. Already she knew that this was not her guy but to be talking to a child; whom she assumed from how Rin typed in third person, was another thing. She started wondering just how old her mysterious guy could possibly be, to have a child running around the house. It could even be his, for that matter. 'Please don't let me be talking to an old man.' She thought as she typed in her replied.
Kagome: Rin, what are you doing using a phone that I know doesn't belong to you.
TTC: Are you going to tell?
Kagome: No, no. Sweetie, how old are you? Where's your daddy?
TTC: Rin's 12 years old. Daddy is in his dojo. He's a really good fighter. He protects and saved Rin from these bad men before. He's really really strong. Are you daddy's new girlfriend?
Kagome blushed at the comment. She never even met the guy or was given a name to refer to. How on earth could she possibly be his new girlfriend? But what really got to her was the child's speech or writing, so to speak.
'She's 12 years old, why is she still referring to herself in third person?' Kagome thought to herself.
Kagome: No, I'm just a friend of your father.
TTC: Can you be Rin's friend too?
Kagome: Of course.
Kagome smiled. It was nice; for once, having someone that actually respond when spoken/texted to.
Kagome: We could even go out and have ice-cream.
TTC: That eager to see me, that you cannot wait another day?
…
Sesshoumaru was exiting his dojo and heading back to his chamber to take a shower when the sound of typing stopped him behind his own door. He opened the door to find his adopted daughter on his phone and grinning happily. She looked up and smiled innocently. The same smile he always get when he caught her doing something he essentially imposed not to defy. He then sent her off with Jaken and sat down. He was curious as to what she could possibly find fascinating.
Seems, his daughter was busy messaging his so called 'friend'. He can only wonder what they talked about as he received a message from her. He replied her with one of his own and the battle of wit began.
Kagome: Don't start with me. Plus, I wasn't talking to you. Where's Rin?
TTC: That is of no concern to you.
Kagome: I didn't know you have a daughter? How old are you anyways?
TTC: Older than you.
Kagome: Hey! You don't know that for sure. I could be 40 and living with my cats. For all I know, you could be a murderous psychopath who intends to lure unexpected woman to their demise.
TTC: This, coming from someone who wish to see me. I could say the same to you.
Sesshoumaru expected an answer right away from her after the insult he threw at her but it took longer than he anticipated. He guessed that it must have had something to do with his last message. He began to wonder if she was thinking about backing down from the 'meeting'. The thought amused him and now more than ever, he wants to meet this girl in person.
Kagome: About that...
TTC: You intend to back down from our little rendez-vous. It is no surprise that my superiority frightens you.
He waited for her replied. After talking to her for two weeks, he now knows that she; much like himself, even though he will not admit it, never back down from a challenge.
Kagome: Why you...I never said anything about backing down. I'll be there. You better not be late!
The smirk that went un-noticed by anyone but himself, could be seen on Sesshoumaru's face when he received the answer he was waiting for.
TTC: As it is expected of you but sadly I will not be able to join you for the occasion. I have more important matters to attend to. Disappointed you may be, I could try to squeeze you in for next Saturday but even that cannot be certain.
Kagome: I see, I didn't know I frighten you so. It's okay, I guess I won't see you then.
Sesshoumaru was too smart to fall for her little tactics. Though, he had to give her an effort for trying. He will have things his way and that also applied to where and when he plans to see her. There was no way Sesshoumaru is going to let some human make a fool out of him.
TTC: I am not one to fall so easily into your trap.
Kagome: No trap. It's just, I understand. You're so used to having things your way, so when someone else comes along that threatens your authority, you did what any normal and cowardly person would do. You run!
Sesshoumaru didn't want to admit it but she really did have ways with words. Still, he would never let her outsmart him.
TTC: If that is how you want to play it, then you won't mind meeting me tonight at 8:00pm; at the Red Longue Restaurant, you have previously suggested.
Kagome: Tonight?
TTC: Problem?
Kagome: No, no. But why not Sunday? Do you have other plans or something?
TTC: You should reframe yourself from asking questions that does not concern you. Be sure to look presentable. I do not want to dine with those that do not bathe and dress decently.
Kagome: 'Well, excuse me for giving you such a hard time.'
TTC: You should be honor that you get to be in the present of someone such as myself.
Kagome: I see idiots all the time, you don't see me jumping for joy.
…
Back and forth. Back and forth. The pacing of Kagome continued once her conversation with TTC ended. She was so nervous beyond words that she can't even think clearly.
"Ah, Kagome! Would you stop that pacing of yours? It's giving me a headache." Sango complained. "I'm sure it won't be that bad." She tried to assure but even she was a little edgy and it wasn't even her 'meeting', as Kagome so kindly corrected.
"He said tonight and I agreed. What am I going to do Sango?" Kagome pleaded with her eyes, looking at her friends for comfort words and encouragement but even she could tell the uneasy glace that was in Sango's eyes.
Kagome had called her friend up the moment the 'meeting' date was confirmed and the thought of going to see him finally registered into her mind. She was so nervous that Sango didn't think twice about it and headed right over. Now they are discussing about what to be done regarding the situation at hand.
"I got it!" an excited Sango exclaimed. She opened Kagome's closet and went through her clothes, tossing out all kind of outfit and placing them in a pile on Kagome's bed.
"What on earth are you doing? I thought you've finally figure out a way to help me?" Kagome said, placing one hand on her hip.
"I am. I've finally figured out what you could wear. Here...hold this." She handed Kagome a black silky dress.
"What? That's what you've been thinking all this time?"
"There is no backing out now, so might as well make the most out of it. Now...Kagome, where is that red dress of yours? Y'know, the one I bought for you but you never wore." Sango asked, while still continuing to rampage through her closet.
'I give up!' Kagome said to herself. She stepped over the pile of clothes to help Sango with the search. If you can't avoid it...might as well go with the flow. 'I wonder what he's like in person?'
…
Saturday, 2:20pm
"Hello, my name is Kagome and I will be your waitress for today."
"Just give us a few more minutes." The blond hair guy replied, not once removing his hand from his partner.
"No problem. Would you like to have anything to drink in the meantime?"
"Sex on the Sands," the dark hair guy answered.
'So obviously what this guy is thinking…' Kagome thought, as she smiled. "…and you sir?" she turned to the blond hair guy.
"Just a glass of water, thanks."
Kagome headed back to the kitchen, glancing at the clock as she passed by. She still have 4 tables; including the one that just took their seat, making it 5 total, who have yet to start on their main dish. There was still time to finish up her tables before she gets off at 4pm.
'Giving them an hour extra, just in case they stall…that makes it 5pm…giving me 30 minutes to get back home and two hours to get ready, with 30 minutes to get to the restaurant for 8pm.' She thought to herself. 'Perfect!' She smiled.
Of course, all this did not go unnoticed by Abi and Nobunage who was heading her way.
"Ohh…someone's eager to get off early," Abi teased. "Must be one hell of a guy, if he's got you this excited!"
Kagome blushed, "I'm not excited!"
It never occurred to her that she would be meeting her 'friend' at the restaurant where she worked. It nearly gave her a heart attack but after Nobunage explained that it would make things earlier for them to help her out if he was 'no good', that calmed her down.
"Okay, off you go. We have a full house tonight." Abi gently nudged Kagome along with a smile.
Kagome continued to work until 4:30pm. She felt a bit guilty leaving so early since usually around dinner time is when the restaurant is most busy but Nobunage insisted on taking over her sections and Abi was already pushing her out the door.
"I'll keep an eye out for your date…I mean 'friend'," Nobunage corrected before Kagome could ring his neck.
…
Saturday, 5:15pm
Although Kagome arrived home later than she anticipated because of the heavy traffic, she was still making good timing. Two dresses were already laid out on the bed. One was Kagome first choice while the other was Sango's. Kagome wanted to go with something simple that says day and evening attire. It was a fitted, dark purple, zip closure to the back, cap sleeves dress with a squared neckline and flared hemline. It says casual formal but Sango insisted on the other one. It was an evening deep v-neckline, open v-back with zip closure dark red dress with adjustable straps and sequin-embellished finish fluid skirt. Meant more for a flirtatious party dress than what Kagome had in mind but Sango says 'Live a little!' Kagome grimaced at the thought. Sango's version of 'Live a little' was too much for her. Last time she agreed, she ended up with Kouga. Still having trouble deciding, a knock on the door interrupted her thought. She glanced up to find a familiar face smiling at her with amusement in her eyes.
"Am I interrupting anything important?" Kaede asked, knowing full well what Kagome was up to.
"No, come in."
"Purple looks better on you," Kaede stated as she made her way inside and sat on the bed, gesturing Kagome to come sit with her.
"Is this about me skipping today's miko training?" she asked as she sat down, placing the dresses beside her. She noticed the hesitation in Kaede's eye and instantly tensed up. "You spoke to mom?"
Kaede nodded, not sure how she should proceed with the topic.
"I understand, I'll move out by the end of this week, but I am not going back home."
"What?! No child, I want you to stay and live with me. "
"So, you don't want me out?" A surprised Kagome asked. "I can stay here with you?"
"Of course! Unless you don't want to stay with this old woman." Kaede laughed.
An excited Kagome gave Kaede a huge bear hug. "Oh, thank you, thank you!"
"..Urgh..."
"Sorry." Kagome apologized and released the poor woman. "But why the serious face?"
"Well…" Kaede begin but was interrupted with the 'twit twit' sound of Kagome's phone. "Oh my, look at the time. Don't you have a 'date' to get ready for? We will talk when you get back."
Kagome frowned at the thought. She wanted to know now, but the mention of the 'date' alerted her to the time. "Crap! I still have to shower!" Kagome exclaimed, not bothering to correct Kaede or herself of the mention of the word 'date'.
…
Saturday, 6:00pm
As Kagome struggle to get ready in time, meanwhile, back at the Tensaiga Technology Corporation, Kagome's 'date' was still engross in his work. He was making last minute preparation for the new project before the test trial tomorrow morning, not realizing that his time was drawing near.
"My..my Lord…?" A nervous Jaken stuttered. When he did not get a response, he gathered what courage he had to utter it once more. "…My…my Lord?" This time louder.
Sesshoumaru stopped what he was doing and stared at the nervous Jaken. He was not pleased with the interruption.
Jaken dropped to his knees in fright and lowered his head to the ground in an apology. "My apology my lord…but you said to remind you about your prior engagement at 8:00pm and it's already 6:00pm"
It took a minute before Sesshoumaru knew what his retainer was talking about. He had completely forgotten that he was to meet his 'friend' tonight for dinner. He reached for the phone he had been using to text message his 'friend', debating whether he should cancel or not. Suddenly an alarmed grubby old man burst into the room unannounced, displeasing Sesshoumaru even further.
"Sesshoumaru-sama, Sesshoumaru-sama, we have an emergency in section 7. Some form of virus has infected the whole system." He exclaimed. "All the data is being erased as we speak!"
Only one thought crossed his mind as Sesshoumaru narrowed his eye dangerously, tightening his grip on the phone as he tried to hold back his youkai power from emerging. 'Naraku'
Sesshoumaru stormed off to section 7, leaving behind a fluster Jaken as he hurried to gather his Lord's paperwork and belongings. He glanced at the once solid phone, which is now only a pile of melted goo. 'What a waste' He thought. He grabbed the only working phone he saw and rushed to catch up to his Lord.
…
Saturday, 7:20pm
Sesshoumaru was beyond upset, he was enraged. Although they managed to save some of the data, this did nothing to calm his lust for blood. This was a declaration of war and he will make sure it will be returned ten times fold.
"Sesshoumaru-sama, please get some rest. Leave the rest to us." One of his worker exclaimed.
Sesshoumaru turned and returned to his study, with Jaken not far behind.
"My Lord, do you still wish to attend your dinner reservation? Or should I call to cancel?" Jaken asked once they were in the study room.
At the mention of dinner, he glanced at the clock. It read 7:30pm. He can still make it if he got ready and left now.
…
Saturday, 7:50pm
In less than 2 hours, Kagome somehow managed to turn the place into a complete mess by the time she left. Kaede could only look on in surprised. She had forgotten what it was like to be young. 'Oh, how I have aged.'
She was getting too old. She needed a successor and that was what she wanted to discuss with Kagome but did not know how to bring it up. 'I can no longer keep it save. My power is failing me.' The old woman thought to herself, depressed. 'But how can I burden this on Kagome? It's just not right.'
Still unable to decide what to do, she could only sigh in frustration at her lack of power. Though she may be old and frail but the hostile aurora that was directed at her did not go unnoticed. She tensed up right away and position herself in defend mode.
"Who's there?" She reached in her pocket for her talisman. "Show yourself!" She demanded.
Appearing from the shadow, a dark figure emerged. "I seek the Shikon no Tama, you will hand it over!" It hissed, extending its claw, as it leap forward to strike at the old miko.
…
Saturday, 8:30pm
'Damnit. I am so late!' Kagome thought as the restaurant came into view. She took a deep breath before walking inside, wondering if 'he' was still waiting or.. 'Maybe he already left.' She thought to herself, feeling a bit disappointed at the thought.
She was greeted with a crowd of people waiting for their tables. 'Wow!' She spotted Abi and waved to get her attention.
Abi excused herself when she saw Kagome. "What are you still doing here? Didn't Nobunage already inform you?"
"About what?"
"Your date is here already. He's been waiting awhile now, he looked a bit pissed. I thought Nobunage already told you…" Abi pushed Kagome forward before she could replied. "Never mind, just go. Table 10. GO!"
"What? How do you even know if it's really him? I don't even know!"
"Oh, he showed us your picture and told us to inform the girl which table he'd be at." Abi explained. "By the way, can't say much about his personality but he's quite the looker I must say." Abi winked and giggled as she pointed in the direction of the table and nudged Kagome onward. "Good luck!" She whispered.
Kagome nodded and walked the rest of the way. As the table came into view, she can feel her stomach doing a flip and her palm sweating. 'Okay, relax. Take a deep breath.' She kept repeating it until she calm her racing heart.
As she got closer, she noticed the figure with long dark hair sitting impatiently at the table. By the time Kagome reached the table, he was getting ready to leave. She picked up her pace and greeted him as he got up.
"Hi! Sorry for being late." She smiled innocently.
Standing face to face, Kagome noticed that he was a half a foot taller than her and as Abi have described, he was indeed handsome.
"About time! You are late!"
She tried not to let his comment get to her, since she was indeed late. Putting on her waitress smile, once again she apologized. "Yes, sorry."
"You have any idea how long I've waited for you?"
Kagome just nodded.
"A person can only wait for so long for you to show up! You can't expect to quartz in here over 90 minutes late. Don't you know what time it is? Also…you..."
"I have a goddamn name! Why don't you learn to use it!" She shouted her demand. There was only so much a person can take without losing their cool. She was only 30 minutes late. 'Where did he get off saying 90 minutes? Just how much of a jerk can one person be?'
"Alright..." He said, taking his seat at the table. "Have a seat..." he gestured to the chair. "…Kikyou."
"See, was that so…?" Kagome paused, too shock and confused to utter the rest of the words.
Before she could form her next question, her phone rang. She reached for her phone, not once taking her eye off of him.
"Kagome?!" The person on the line hollered.
Kagome's eye widen at the familiar voice. "Kik…"
"NO, don't say my name! Just excuse yourself and go to the girl's washroom, RIGHT NOW!"
'What on earth is going on?'
