The Story of Kingdom Hearts

"With the fall of the old regime and rise of the new,

And those with courage became far too few,

As lives fell apart, the old spell had broken,

And promises died while words went unspoken…

The one never mentioned in history's oldest tales

Will be the one to soothe all the world's tiring quails.

But the sun will set on yet another day past,

And time will soon run out, for time can never last.

New weapons are created and new paths are made,

But using all the relics that time Itself forbade.

Now it is discovered that only one will wield,

But such is the nature that the One will never yield…

Betrayals are played like cards in a game,

As all but one person calls out the name.

And soon, very soon, like a flame, death will die,

But at a price at which no one can buy…

The end is at hand and all does seem lost –

But time will repent and will pay the cost.

However, one trial stands before the rest,

And that is the only unobtainable test."

Now listen, my children, and gather around,

And within my arms you will be safe and sound.

I will tell you the end of a most glorious tale,

Where the stakes were so high you thought they would fail.

Or maybe I shan't, for what good will it be,

If I tell you the end and not the story?

I will tell you the moral, but I shan't speak much more:

That in the end, love opened the door.

Let me explain, for you don't understand;

Many a qualm was laid at rest by one hand.

Three were erased from our history past,

Even though history was meant to last.

One was never mentioned from the very start,

And maybe this mistake was what tore us apart.

Who was that fourth hand, a question you may ask;

Well, if you want an answer, why, you must bear the task.

As I've said once, it was love let us be,

It was the power of love that finally set us free.

Now, dearest children, hear the story I tell,

Of the heroes that rose and the heroes that fell.

It began with three children you dreamed like you do;

It began with my mother and the friends that she knew…

-- Kingdom Hearts

[a.n.] Some words were meant as metaphors – like 'fall of the old regime and rise of the new' meant the fall of peace with King Mickey leading Disney and the rise of Anem's 'regime' of Heartless. And the fourth 'one never mentioned in history's tales' signifies love, as in 'love opened the door'. I'm sure you all know what that means.

Want to know the true origin of this hardly called-for poem? I meant to write a series of stories called the Hellbinder series, and I was looking for summaries for when I posted them on the sitey. So I started rhyming some things that pretty much summed up the stories (The summaries are in succession, the first five, that is, which are in quotation marks, before the teller-of-poem tells her children our story…). And you know what…now that I think about it, I'm going to rewrite this. Make it seem more real.

Well, anyway, enough of my pointless, heading-in-circles rambling. Tell me what you think.
