My first NARUTO fic. It's about the dolphin and the scarecrow (hint
hint) but it's a sad story. Please read! I might consider writing a
sequel if I get enough comments.

The Dolphin's Love
"I ... I've loved you since the first time I saw you," the dolphin said. He was lying on his side on the bare autumn field, gazing up at the figure standing beside him. The sun was setting behind the trees in the distance, casting two lone shadows on the soft ground.
The scarecrow said nothing.
"You think I'm crazy, don't you?" The dolphin laughed as if deriding himself, and continued with downcast eyes: "Someone like me, loving someone like you. We're so different. Out positions, our lives. But ... I can't help it."
The scarecrow said nothing. An early owl hooted far away.
The dolphin suddenly rose his head and blurted, "I've ... I've had sex before. Just for the fun of it." He almost seemed to be blushing, although it was difficult to tell as the orange light of the sinking sun hit the deep, healthy color of his skin. "But I've never felt like this before. Every time I see you, your firm frame and your calm eyes, my heart ..." He fell silent here, overwhelmed by his emotion and unable to find the right words.
"My heart races to you."
The scarecrow said nothing, only swayed slightly in the breeze. The dolphin stared at him with eager, honest eyes, pushing his lips together in silent hope. The scarecrow's face was hidden for him now, the sun placed as if an halo over the head, blinding the dolphin. He waited for an answer. Nothing came.
Slowly, the dolphin cast his eyes down again. "If that's how you feel," he said and chirped shortly, unable to repress his sorrow. He rolled around on his stomach and, dragging himself, made it to the edge of the river running through the field. There, he lifted his head for a while and gazed back at his love, his eyes pleading for the answer he now knew would never come. Then he threw himself into the water and swam away.
The scarecrow said nothing.
